Sanyo 18" cocktail degauss issue? Discoloration on screen.

I've been searching the threads for solutions to this, and nothing seems to work so far.

I don't own a degaussing coil, so I got out the corded drill to see if it would help. If I put the drill near the discolored spot and pull the trigger, the screen looks BEAUTIFUL but no matter what else I try it still has the discoloration when I take the drill away.

Can someone please confirm that these images indeed look like a degaussing issue and not some other issue? The discoloration is pretty faint but just bad enough to bother me.

EDIT: forgot to mention the monitor was recently capped with the deluxe kit + sound board kit + neckboard pots + main adjustment pots + filter cap.

That is the exact issue I have on my monitor, except the discoloration is green. I am buying a degaussing coil today to see if that helps. Maybe you'll need to get a real degaussing coil too.

Sweet, let me know how it works out for you. If I was 100% sure it was degaussing I'd buy a coil.

I've seen this before. Sometimes degaussing works and sometimes it doesn't...

Ok I can confirm, buy a legit deguass coil. I used it on my green for about 15 seconds and my problem completely dissapeared. It looks perfect now.

I use an old car speaker (magnet side), if circular patterns don't help, try waving it like a blackboard eraser. Ghetto but works good enough!

Ok, thank you both for the advice. I'll try to fix the discoloration more this weekend (and look into why the built in degaussing coil isn't taking care of it) and if I can't I'll get one from Bob Roberts.

If you have one of those large gun shaped soldering guns you can use it in a circular motion with the side of the gun facing the tube and slowly work your way straight away from the tube while continuing the circular motion until the gun no longer affects it.

I got a degaussing coil if you want to try it out.

That's awesome of you to offer, but tonight I busted out the drill again and tried a few more techniques... Wiping like a blackboard eraser horizontally did nothing.. but wiping vertically took it right out. :) Monitor looks perfect now!

Glad to see it worked. When I got my DK cocktail, it was discolored pretty bad too, so after reading some tips online about using magnets and drills and stuff, I grabbed the strongest magnet on the fridge and ran it around in circles around the discolored areas and it took a bit, but I got it looking pretty good.
