Does anyone know of a TV that may possibly house a compatible tube for a Sanyo 14"?
Like maybe an 80's era Sanyo TV or similar. I'm not into wasting money on buying any old 14" tv that I see only to find out the socket doesn't fit the tube. I've bought 3 so far with no luck.
It's pretty discouraging :(

First off, even though it's called a 14", it's actually a 13". Japanese tubes are measured from the outside of the tube rather than the viewable area as is done in America.

I can't remember, how many pins are on the neck? I have one at work I can check. If you know what CR adapter it uses, I might now a TV that will work...

Thanks for the reply mod, well the funny thing is I've been calling it a 13" myself but I've been told on these boards it was a 14. So, just to avoid the hassle I went with 14". I have tryed to figure out what adapter it takes for the same reason you ask but the list I have does not show that particular tube. It has 8 pins like the others I have tried but the hole in the socket on the neck board is too small to accept the tube. Is there a way I can tell what adapter it takes? My guess would be the more uncommon A-9 or A-13 but that's just a guess.

you might want to be looking at old 13" CGA/RGB computer monitors as well, especially the ones made for Commodores and early Apples with composite inputs. skip anything with a 9-pin D plug like a 1084s as those tend to be pricey and worth well more than just buying a 13" tube somewhere.

i used to pick these cheap at thrift stores so we could put together video game rooms for science-fiction conventions (perfect for use with a PS or SNES,) but they've become a lot more rare over the last few years.

Thanks for the replies guys, yeah that shoulda been a 0 not a o. Thanks for the link, that list is about 1000 times better than the one I was using. It figures it looks like there are only a few tubes that take a 33 it looks pretty much hopeless.

how desperate are you for a tube? i shipped a cabaret Nintendo Space Demon with original Sanyo 14" monitor to Todd at TNT a couple of years ago... the neck of the tube broke during shipping and he managed to replace it. he may have a source or possibly some used in stock.

thanks for the info, I'll PM Todd
I've been looking to get a replacement tube for a couple of years now. Those things seem pretty hard to come by. Hopefully Todd has a source.

At that point, why not start looking at putting a regular 13" monitor in there?

Well I've thought of it a few times but the thought of making a new mount and having to invert the video just makes me move on to other projects. I'm not not saying it wouldn't be easy to do, I'm just too lazy I suppose. It goes in a DK cocktail and there's not a lot of room to spare in those buckets.

Yeah, it is a pain. I'd either keep an eye out for a 14" Sanyo like you've been doing or swap a 13" monitor into the Sanyo's frame and get an inverter. The inverter is the least of your problems though.

Well, as I mentioned, I have a tube at work for this. Came out of a DK cocktail. The chassis was toasted....

Sadly, no source....just pulled a monitor from another cocktail game I had and sold it without the monitor...sorry! This is where auctions are great---so you can stock up on dead or ugly cabinets and games--to harvest the parts--including the ever-increasing rare picture tubes with little or no burn in. Todd

just to avoid possible confusion. there is a sanyo 14" monitor with a kinda L shaped chassis like the one pictured at bob's site that was used by atari and others.

and a 13" sanyo that is a small version of the 20ez. used in dk and earlier nintendo cocktails

which are you looking for?

I'm looking for the "mini" 20ez or the 13" version of it.
It's for a DK cocktail.

Sorry you can't find the tube Greg. I'm thinking of looking a burn-free/minimal burn 14" (13") tube for my red tent. The side that had Golf is badly burned. There's like a big dark box on the left half of the screen. Turning up the brightness and the smoked plexi minimizes it, but it's still pretty noticeable. Kind of annoying but I can live with it.

I think the red tent uses a 17" tube. You may want to put a rejuvenator on your tube to check it's health and run a degausser over it to see if that helps as well.

Oh yeah, sorry, I was assuming 14", but that's good to know.

Well, it has a degaussing button built into the chassis which removes the discoloration, but does nothing to the screen burn. I have a feeling I'm going to need a new tube which is probably next to impossible to find.

I totally missed where you said it was burn. The rejuvenator and degausser will not do anything for burn. There seems to be a problem with the chassis and yoke used on these monitors. You should be able to find a tube from another red tent fairly easily.

I wish this was true, but red tents are practically non-existent on the west coast. It took me almost a year to find mine. I guess someone with an extra red tent who is using it for parts could possibly ship me a tube, but finding someone willing to do so would be tough. We'll see. Thanks for all the input!
