Been working some on a Sanyo 14" monitor in a missile command CT.

Some of the new things I learned may help diagnose this monitor's problems. I'm hoping it's something simple.

The two symptoms are

1) Random rolling vertically. It can be adjusted out but the range of position the vertical POT can be in is infinitely small. And once you get it to sit still, a few minutes later, it will slowly start rolling again in either direction. The longer it stays on, the worse the problem gets.

2) Horizontal width coil doesn't affect the width. I saw something from a Fromm article about changing a capacitor that might help with that - but the coil on this chassis does not appear to adjust at all.

I should also mention the problem with the width is that it's too wide. Just barely - it overscans the edges.

Time's running out since this is *supposed* to be a Christmas gift, but not unless I can get a stable picture. Everything else is working fine.

Dokert - did the cap kit - that was the original recommendation. Didn't affect the vertical roll at all in this case. This is a TM-157 14" Sanyo monitor.

I appreciate your input though - do you think there's another possible solution? I couldn't find one on the web....

Thanks for following up - but there doesn't appear to be one on the MC boardset.

I got the following from Bob Roberts:

In general, acting the way you describe would be a
sync problem rather then a vertical problem. I'd check out the sync wiring &
make sure it is hooked up properly, as well.

Is he referring to the sync on the PCB or on the monitor, do you think?

Thanks - I'll have to check into it. Do you think the pot for V hold could be bad on the adjustment board?

Quick question - can a Sanyo 20-EZ drop in for testing without reqiring for the TM-157?

Thinking about testing another monitor, to make sure this isn't a power or board issue and this MC is sitting right next to a DK CT.

Or will I blow up the monitor?

After I asked the question I remembered the power issue. Good to know about the ability to test though.

Thanks....
