I finally managed to pick up a Universal Cabinet. It's side art is Magical Spot, but the bezel and marquee are Ladybug.

I need to find a coin door. I'm not worried about a control panel as I have a rare game fling in the cabinet and may get custom art made.

Anyway, I'm new to this. Not sure if the stock Universal art could lie underneath or should I just buy some art or a stencil? My goal is original Universal and I may also add some custom art for this rare game.

What are your suggestions? I don't own any tools currently and will need to get something.

No tools required. That side art looks great.
You're not lying. That's why I originally passed on buying the cabinet because I didn't want to ruin the artwork. I mean honestly the artwork on the sides isn't going to matter too much because it's getting donated to the Galloping Ghost. So after it gets on the Monday Mystery it's just going to get stuck in a row with all the others. So the front is what we'll need to look the nicest.

Maybe I will get a sander anyway and match the orange paint for the few spots that need it. That will give me something to do for now.

Holy shit this is a massive travesty. I wish I wouldn't have sold the universal cabinet that I tore the artwork off of, it was the (badly damaged) standard stuff. I would've traded you. Don't wreck this cabinet for galloping Ghost. Please. That artwork is amazing and in seemingly pristine condition. At least put it up for trades for the standard version.

Doubt that standard Universal art is underneath. Unless I'm missing something that's an original Magical Spot. I'd limit any paint touch ups. It would be like trying to touch up Donkey Kong Formica with paint.

That is pretty impressive artwork.

It may have been better than the game. I don't know - never played it.

What Phet said. That looks to be a gorgeous example of very rare original art. Man, get it into the hands of someone who'll do it up right, that's way too gorgeous a specimen to go jacking up. It should find a proper home pretty quickly.

My suggestion: don't get a sander, paint stripper, stencil, or touch-up paint anywhere near that cabinet. Leave it exactly like it is because there aren't many like it left. If you don't want a Magical Spot--or don't want Ladybug or another Universal game in a Magical Spot cabinet--please trade it or sell it to somebody who does, so you can then go get exactly what you are looking for without having to ruin something rare and beautiful to get it!

Yeah, I just read this and it unless I'm missing something? It doesn't make too much sense either.. another suggestion is that if you'd like to put another Universal game in there? I'd leave the artwork as is and just change the marquee and control panel the same way it was acquired. I think there's nothing wrong with having another game in the same cabinet it was designed for, a lot like a DKJR in a DK cabinet and if it will be at Galloping Ghost? There are so many games there that they are sandwiched between each other with not even an inch apart so nobody will see the sideart and if it's for a reveal? Not worth it imo for 1 day. Gosh, there's nothing that needs to be done to that.. if you'd like to do something to it it the meantime? Maybe a couple coats of Carnuba wax, it's really nice.

Thanks! Glad I came here before doing anything. Anyway, I was originally not wanting it because I didn't want to destroy it. I had a chance to buy it and let it go. After not finding a Universal cabinet for so long, I found the guy who got a hold of the same one I previously saw. He said he didn't want the cabinet, but was just a temporary keeper of the cabinet until he found the good home it's going to. I ended up trading a Donkey Kong cabinet (and another) for this.

Yeah, no worries here. I originally didn't buy it because I didn't want to ruin it. It just somehow worked out to get back in my hands at a good price and we made a good friend in the process.

No worries. She's safe. That's why I came here to ask. I was having a hard time finding a generic art Universal cabinet, so when this one came under my nose for a second time we jumped on it.

I have a rare Universal game that's going in it. No arcade has an original. I don't know anyone who has the artwork except me and one other person. I don't know anyone with the art.. at least I can't find anyone. I have two different marquees and an instruction card. My friends wanted to do custom side art, but I didn't want to. This game was sold as a conversion kit, so it didn't have any side art with it, which is why I wanted to make none. However, we may find someone to do us custom bezel art.. I'm having the art made into vector possibly this week. We'll see how well of a job they do.

Interesting. Which game is it?

See, that's just it for me.. it was meant to be a conversion and had no side art. Like it or not? conversions were part of the scene. Just please don't paint it black. :) Interesting dilemma for sure though and I wish you luck!

Jumping Jack. I have an original factory conversation. I would have had a second one but I lost out on an auction recently. I don't know of anyone who has the artwork besides me and another guy. I just had the marquee and instruction card made into vector. I'll be taking it somewhere to color match and print them on plexi soon.

I actually have another marquee that is different. It came from another country. I may get that one turned into vector also and offer that as well. What's interesting about the alternate marquee is that the gameplay is different from what is written on the marquee. It has instructions on it talking about things that don't actually happen in the game.

The instruction card I have is in Japanese but I will probably make an English one as well.

Any chance you would share the vector or have one printed on plexi and sell?
