so random question. i have been stripping and sanding the old oil paint off my robotron and then repainting it with spraypaint on the front and then rolling the rest. i didn't really use a mask but had the garage door opened to ventilate. i didn't have a ton of dust in the air but didn't use a mask and i ended up with black boogers and black shit on my lips. i have done this 2 other times over the last couple years. should i be conceerned over any long term health effects? i am breathing fine and i didn't get dizzy or anything so i'm feeling fine... just wanted to ask.

I wouldn't think there'd be long term health effects from doing it once or twice but I'd err on the side of caution and just use a mark in the future.

Yep, invest on a mask with replaceable filters, it's worth it and they're not that expensive. Eye protection too. I wear disposable gloves when I spray paint now too, it's hard to get the enamel paint off my skin.

cool, thanks guys. between the sanding oil paint and spray paint, and then spraying, i just wanted to make sure i didn't get any rotten shit into my body that would fuck me up.

You really should use a mask at least. Gloves and eye protection secondary.

Some of the effects of not using a mask may show up years from now.

I spray polyurethane automotive 2-part clear coat. Extremely bad stuff. The proper protection is NOT optional.

I always wear a respirator for everything. There's tons of particles you can't see, and they're going into your lungs. Protect yourself....

Yeah I will be from now going forward. Just mainly wanted to make sure that 2-3 hours total Of sanding over the last couple days didnt hurt me. The dust that came off fell to the floor and didn't really kick up a big cloud or anything. I just noticed it from the black boogers.

When you're really bored Jim, spend a little time researching the chemical contents of paints, inks and solvents used when these games were built and you'll probably find that most of them were banned by the EPA from further use about 15-20 years ago for health reasons.

Throw on a dust mask at least, it's still the same nasty stuff in dust form. Gotta go peel asbestos off some old pipes now, respirator free of course.
