Hello all,
I have a friend of mine that has a Sammy extreme hunting, and all he is getting out of it is a humm. He did verify that power is coming to the power supply, and he said the monitor has very faint neck glow. He also said that there is no sound or picture at all. He did take the 3.5amp slo blow fuse off the monitor chassis and checked continuity....the fuse was good. Reinstalled the fuse and had the same results. This was about as far as I could take him without being there.

Could this possibly be a weak power supply? Not allowing sufficient voltage to get to everything needed?

I personally have not been able to make it over to his house to help him with it, I'm hoping to get a chance on Friday afternoon to head over there and was hoping I could have some direction to go once I got there.

Thank you for your help!

Austin

One thing to check as far as the sound goes, if the fan on the board is not running I believe the sound chip disables as a protection to keep it from over heating. The video will still continue to come through though at least on my atomiswave board it does. There is also a dip switch that changes video output from jamma connector to the VGA connector on the board to run at 31hz rather then the standard 15. These would be the easy fixes anything else would require some technical help. Easiest thing for me is to pull the board and put in a working cab and go from there. Good luck with it.

Thank you for the help. I guess it would have been helpful for people to know everything was working fine for him, and he turned the switch on to play it a few days later and thats when he got the symptoms above. Do you still think I would need to check those things? Even though there was nothing wrong a few days prior?

Any one else have any suggestions?

If you pull the board and plug it in another cab and it worked I would guess your heading in the right direction with power supply problems. Since you get no picture and no sound and the setup was previously working days ago it would most likely be it. If it won't work in another cab then it's most likely board or cartridge related. Post what you find when you get there.

Okay, thanks for the info!
As soon as I get a chance to head over there I will post to let you know what I found.

Now he did send me a picture of the inside of his cab and the board set is what looks the be covered in a red plastic case. So I really couldn't see much. Do you know if it might be a jamma set up? If so I could plug it into another cab I have or I could bring one of the 3 extra power supplies I have and just change it out and see if that does it.

Yes it will plug in a jamma cab. Just check 1 of the only 2 dip switches to see if video is set for VGA or CGA via the jamma out.
