No matter what chassis I get in, I always go over it in the following order (unless I get specific info ahead of time):
Fuses -> Caps -> HOT -> VR -> Solder Joints/Cracks -> Common issues with that model that I am aware of -> Flyback -> Neckboard -> Inspection for anything else
Once I've gone through all of that and fixed anything that needs it, then I'll try powering it up and see what happens.
On a recent "dead" K7000 I received, I quickly found:
blown fuse
old caps
shorted HOT
shorted VR
broken pad from trace
shorted horizontal width cap
bad flyback (verified with ring tester)
Once I fixed all of that, it came up perfect....
