I am getting a bulk deal of monitors from a local operator tomorrow. He has 15 monitors, ranging from 19" to 27". I want to make only one trip in my truck because its a 60 mile round trip. Whats the safest way to move a large lot of fragile glass tubes in the back of a pickup? Any strapping techniques? Cushioning material? Granted I am not keeping 80% of the tubes/frames so truthfully I couldnt care less, but I would rather not bust neck boards in half or have hundreds of glass shards in my truck bed...

not sure how many would comfortably fit in a truck bed this way but when I transported a few monitors in mine I got a piece of plywood that fit nicely in the bed and used the holes in the monitor frames to screw them to the wood.

+1 on this. B your going to run into universal mounted tube which that method will not work easily (or your going to need like 6" screws and lay them on their face).

Your going to have to work really hard to break a tube. At best your going to neck it. Very little ammount of glass when you do that.

Quite a few moving blankets, lining the truck bed. The thicker the better, then monitors can ride on the tubes, and won't fall over because of their weight placement. A couple of buddy's and myself did this for roughly 15-20 monitors between two trucks, and they rode good. Just don't drive like a bat out of hell, and you'll be fine. No jumping railroad tracks :)

That is brilliant!!! Great Idea!!!

Yep. This is what I did for transporting single monitors in my car. I cut a piece of ply big enough that the tube would be protected if it slid around and put in carriage bolts to bolt the monitor down.

Works great. Monitor can't tip over and if it slides around in the back, the wood hits the side leaving the monitor in one piece.

You just need to scale it up.

I'd say take it one step further and bring 2 pieces of plywood in the truck. Mount as many 19" monitors on the lower level plywood as you can fit. As long as they're all the same height, you should be able to stack the 2nd tier of plywood on top, resting on the top ears of all the tubes. Then you can screw all your odd-shaped and larger monitors to the top piece. That should EASILY get you a dozen monitors in the back of the truck, probably more like 14. Then you can always have 1 or 2 riding in the cab with you :)
