Is it safe to "workbench" a monitor to get it working on at least the high voltage side, without having a tube? I mean to put the suction cup into something insulated like a glass jar and power up the monitor to track through the schematics and test points or is this a terrible idea?

True. I often bench test without a tube. It's easier to do voltage checks that way. I stick the anode cup in a glass jar or plastic tub to keep it isolated. As stated, some models won't power up the HV section without a load (yoke) attached, which is why I keep several yoke models handy for that purpose...

Okay, that is what I kind of figured, and have actually done this a few times, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't something stupid I was missing that would cause an issue down the line with the neckboard obviously not being hooked up to anything.
