Okay, One of my cabs has had the sides sprayed black with the original color still underneath in good shape. I cannot understand why they painted over it but I want to strip it off. What do you guys recommend??
I'll say with experiance, if it's sprayed over vinyl, you have a chance, if it's sprayed over paint, you're screwed and must repaint / stencil, or use vinyl print. I tried to strip mine, and it doesn't stop at just spray paint, it goes through all the layers.
If it's vinyl, you can use Motsenbocker's Lift Off #4 Spray Paint Graffiti Remover and this will remove the paint, but not damage the vinyl.
There is an article on this somewhere... The author claims you can strip paint off paint, but provides no examples, and I'm telling you from mine, it doesn't work
They are sprayed black but the original grey vinyl is underneath the black. This is the cabinet here. Notice the grey against black in the pic? All of the grey you see has been painted black
I am working on a Tempest (xmas present for my older brother - shhh!) and the original sideart is under a coat of white paint that was protected by some ugly Roc-N-Rope sideart stickers.
I can fingernail tiny chips of the paint off but this sounds quite a bit faster! If it wasn't for the badass snowstorm pounding the midwest atm, I'd be at Home Depot buying a gallon of the stuff.
yeah, it comes in reasonable spray bottles. I think you have a chance since it's vinyl underneath.
Just give it 10 min. or so and let it react with the paint, then scrape it away with something soft like a plastic piece with round edges so you don't scrape your nice vinyl art. The paint should push away like butter. If you need to ad more stripper, do so.
