Went to an indoor Fun center this weekend for my Daughter's birthday. Place is huge, but seemed undermaintained. only 3 of 8 skeeball machines were even on, much less working. The bumper cars (the reason we went there) were still out of order, and have been for over a year since my last visit, and probably long before that. Jurassic Park, Star Trek Voyager and House of the Dead sit-down all out of order. I played a Nascar sitdown, some linked SEGA racer with my wife, Deal or No Deal and some redemption games. My daughter then wanted to ride the cool, dragon-themed indoor rollercoaster so we mounted up. That's when I saw it.

As we went up the highest hill, I noticed that a whole corner of the building was walled off with orange snow fencing in a giant L. This was around the back 2 sides of the base of the coaster. In that long, makeshift hidden corridor sat at least 40 - 50 dead machines of all kinds. Arcade, redemption, mechanical, etc. The only things I didn't see were pinballs. I kept trying to get a mental title list as we past them, but it was all a blur. I did catch a Rock N Bowl, a Robocop, a Rush the Rock, Cruisin World, Street Fighter of some sort, and many others. There were no early 80's classics that I could see, but a lot of cool stuff none the less.

I asked the female operator about them and she told me, that's "not her area of expertise, I'd need to find one of the techs." One of the techs? This place obviously hasn't seen an able-bodied tech in 10 years. "Find one of the techs" she says. Oh yeah, and "area of expertise" she says. As if she has ever traveled to ANY area of expertise, evar, in her whole 16 years.

Classic...I often have this same feeling when I go to my local Fun Center. There never seems to be anyone around that can really do repairs. When I try to speak to the employees about it, I get the eye rolling teenager thing. It's sad, but I guess that's atleast part of the reason there are so few, if any classics in these places.

Our local go cart Family Fun center used to have a whole pile of dead games littering their corridors and go-kart arena. Me and Wade tried unsuccessfully to score some of them. The new operator put in new games, and bought the old inventory. Nice of them to just lay all that crap they bought around the business huh? Most of it is gone now, and the op had no interest in selling.

The place you are at may be in the same situation

Too bad she didn't allow you to go back there and get a closer look at the games. Did you leave your contact information or anything?

Let me get this straight:

1) No techs
2) More broken machines than working ones
3) Operator personnel who knew nothing about anything

And you STILL got on an indoor roller coaster in this joint?:001_ssuprised:

Nope, but I grabbed theirs.

Frightening. Eh, what exactly did you grab?

*Shudders, and quickly gets the fuck out*

Like there's just a huge group of forgotten gay guys hiding behind an orange snow fence in the back of a family fun center. What do they eat? Why don't they try to escape? How is it that they aren't missed by their families? How many gays is too many? Sorry, too many plot holes for that quote hack my little melty mars bar.

Gee I wonder which one you are talking about, we were there last week and the teenages just had a vacant look when asking about the machines

Does anyone remember that PSA from the 70s about taking pride in your work? There was a street sweeper and a hot dog vendor. For some reason this thread reminded me of that.
