OK, so i decided to have another go at my high score save problems on my Q*bert after the discussion over the past couple of days in this thread: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=170087

unfortunately, now Q*bert is very sad. when i power it up, i get "Hello, I'm turned on", and sometimes a weak knocker thump, but then i get a screen full of garbage (see the attached pic).

i have two full sets of boards (all 3 - power, audio/video, and CPU, which as of about a week ago all worked), and no combination of them gets anything other than the garbage screen. even when put in Test mode, same thing happens.

any ideas?

my high score save problems now seem somewhat trivial in comparison :)...

If both sets worked before, I would pull the connectors and with a light and a pick with a needle point, check for low sitting pin contacts. Try raising the contacts without breaking them. If you have a meter, measure for proper voltages.

just to close the loop on this, and to show/admit that i am indeed an idiot sometimes.

decided to just take it easy and start from scratch, and have a look at things.

so, turns out, on both boards, i had put the RAM in backwards. *d'oh!* swapped it right-way-round, and voila, works like a charm. both boards. all 3 sets of RAM (though they still don't hold the high score - but i'm gonna try the fix that mrbill08 recommend in http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=170087).

so, if you want to know what a q*bert looks like when the RAM is backwards - have a look at the pic in the OP.

sigh...
