i see on their website they are claiming to need $3k just to keep the doors open past june 8th. check their facebook and they have raised $2351, still some ways to go to $3k they supposedly need.

Annie and I have spent every penny of our personal savings to keep Rusty Quarters afloat and with being declined for a small business loan, we will not be able to pay May's back rent.

Bottom line, we need to come up with $3,000 by June 8th or we will have to close Rusty Quarters for good.

This very hard for someone to ask another stranger for help but if we can't raise $3,000 in 15 days we will be forced to close. If it wasn't for your support we wouldn't have had stayed open for this long… but now I must swallow my pride and ask for your help. For us to stay open, we will need financial help from you, the gaming community.

now i see this on their facebook, with a picture of a popeye cab:

Maybe later this month... maybe...

we have a seller. We just need to look at our budget this month.

1+1 does not appear to equal 2 here. with only days to go they are supposedly still $650 in the hole after spending "every penny" to their name, just to keep the doors open, but now magically they may be able to afford to buy more games, just need to "look at (their) budget"????

either they are lying about how much money they need to keep the doors open, lying about how much money they have on hand, or lying about how many donations they are taking in.

or what?

I think Sage owns a Popeye cab at his home. I think he's planning on auctioning off his orange DK.

Once it sells, he plans on placing his Popeye cab in the business.

so by "we have a seller" he means they are auctioning off a cab, and by "look at our budget" he means he is simply moving in his own machine? still doesnt pass the smell test. sounds like someone is selling them a popeye, and they need to see if they can afford it. thats the logical interpretation. even if he does own one it sure sounds like he is planning to buy one...

leave Britney alone!

*a local chimes in*

I believe Sage and Annie own a Popeye cab they have had at home for some time. At least, that's what I seem to recall (but I do smoke alot, so...).

I agree, the statements made do not seem to add up correctly. But it is my impression that Popeye was the last personal machine at home, and indeed they will be selling the orange DK.

And while I appreciate the need for drama around here, and all the butthurtedness (new word!) felt by those offering help only to feel not listened to or followed well enough - I'd really like to see this fire die. If you're not pumping cash into their donation pool, then you can't really complain about how they're spending their money and time. And to the poster above me : I can assure you that neither Sage nor Annie are addicted to, or even recreationally use, any drugs.

I'd really like to see them succeed, and any of you that also claim to be preservationists should too.

soap

wow who needs univision and telenovelas with this drama around here. we call these folks piss detectives at work! la saga de la rusty quarters......

I really think that this RQ thread shit should stop. Where are we at now with how many umpteen threads about it? Jeesus, please let the threads die already and post something factual and not speculatory. It's getting old now, really old.

Just the facts, if you had any idea where the money is going, call Sage or Annie up and post your finds here. I'm done now... Carry on...

You do Realize this is the first thread about rusty quarters not started by the owners of rq, right?

A theory I've had for a while is that they're actually in need of the money for something other than rent.

right? who cares when its a for profit business, but when it becomes "give us money for this" it had better be for that, or else people are getting scammed...

What we should be asking is "why" would you replace a classic with "popeye". I personally loved Popeye growing up on my colecovision but hate it now!!!

+1!!

I do like popeye, but for some reason I personally think if you walk into a "retro arcade/museum", it needs to have staples like DK, DKjr, Pacman, MS Pac, Galaga, Defender, etc....
The General public is going to expect to see those.
I dont understand y you would get rid of something like that...?

FFS people, they have (2) Donkey Kong's currently. There will still be a DK.

Pay attention or stifle yourselves :p

And for the record, Popeye is a classic. It was supposed to be the game released instead of DK... *cough*...blue cabinets...*cough*

Sorry about that - I guess Im not up on ALL the Rusty Quarters operations, other than the sagas posted on here.
Stifle yourself?? And here I thought Archie Bunker was dead! LOL!

it just seemed fishy to me that they would be begging for money with one hand, and still a significant way from paying even last months back rent, with less than a week to go and as they claim, not a penny to their name, and at the same time checking their budget to see if they can get a new game. its legal to seek donations but if you are deceitful its fraud. i hope they are being honest to the letter of the law with their cash business soliciting donations and not lying about anything like the expenses they laid out here awhile back or their finances, because if they close their doors and a donor complains they could easily face an investigation of their "museum" and charity fraud is a big deal, up to 30 years in prison big. hopefully they arent blowing smoke up everyones asses, thats all i am saying:

They are obviously full of $hit. I feel sorry for anyone who was kind hearted enough to make a donation.

How funny would it be if Gordon Ramsay decided to do a series called Arcade Nightmares and they appeared on it.

What exactly makes quarters rusty? Does rat piss do that, because I haven't personally come across a lot of rusty quarters. So I'm call bullshit on this one. Until I see some real rusty quarters, I'm standing by my claim this whole thing is a scam.

Iron, in the presence of moisture and air, will oxidize into iron oxide - better known as "rust." Because quarters don't contain iron, they can't rust. They can oxidize, however, like other metals. Acid will accelerate the oxidation process. Urine can be either acidic or basic, so it would depend on the hydration level and health of the rat urinating on the quarter.
