Yestersday's wedding went without a hitch! It was alot of fun to host Oscar and Emma's reception and it was a hoot to see everyone here eating wedding day cupcakes and playing video games... and yes all of the games are 100% cleaned but I have to tell ya, the controllers on Joust were a challenge to get that much chocolate off... but everything is clean and ready for play! If you would like to see pics of their special day, please check out the wedding album in our FB pics. I would like to thank their guest for playing our games with their pocket change and for their cash donations.

Now, let's check out the DonationMeter™

WOW, WE'RE UP TO $1933!... just WOW!

I'm still amazed by your guys support for your little dinky neighborhood arcade. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for your continuing help through these tough times. The Rube thanks you! Bosslady thanks you! Even Bosco and Bailey, the Wonderdogs thank you!

We are open this Memorial Day from 12pm-6pm. Unfortunately after tonight we will have to up our arcade prices from 25¢ to 50¢. I feel really bad about the change but in today's world we just need this little profit boost just to keep up with the rent and to stay open. I hope that you guys understand...

Pinball will be raised to $1 but since that the pinballs are furnished by John Ross at Pinball Plus, we don't know when the change will take place.

The Rube will be taking ebay pics of our orange Donkey Kong cabinet arcade machine today. We will be auctioning it and putting the profits aside for our annual arcade licensing renewal, with is due in a couple of months. We haven't decided how much the start the auction at but we'll keep you updated.

Once again Thank you for believing in us. Without your help we wouldn't be able to offer a fun and safe place for you, future dates, family, and buddies to come and hang out.

Thank you for your donations and continuing support of Rusty Quarters. You don't even know how much this means to us. There is no obligation but if you would like to donate your pocket change to your neighborhood Minneapolis arcade, please visit our homepage at www.rqarcade.com and click on the DONATE button. If you can't donate, we understand but please tell all your friends about our cause and if you have any spare change, please come on by and have some fun... well, because this is what RQ is all about... Having a great time relaxing with friends and having some fun with some good old fashioned video games.

Once again thank you for your support,
Annie & Sage Spirtos at Rusty Quarters

My mama she uh slaved uh all a day uh over the copypasta. Why you gotta make uh the fun?

Seriously though, it's nice to hear that things may be looking up for Rusty Quarters. I hope things continue to get better.

Thats exactly what the money is used for. :|

If you feel the need to donate to something arcade related, why wouldn't it be something like the International Arcade Museum ran by Greg here.

In all seriousness could you explain your exact cause?
Are you a 501.(3)c corporation?
These donations are going towards paying? Lights? Rent? Payroll?

Seriously Curious.

Welcome to 2012. Crowdfunding is the latest craze. I'm sure a Rusty Quarters Kickstarter is coming next. :D

If you change the games to 50 cent you might as well just close your doors. We thought about it and asked our customers and most said they more than likely would not come back or just play less (price increase to 50 cents is the KISS OF DEATH)

I think charging 50 cents a play IS a good idea, and totally fair given inflation.

(To put people's entertainment dollars into perspective over time: in 2012, the average movie ticket costs $7.92. In 1982, it was $2.94. That's 2.7 times the price! Video games certainly ought to be able to go up by 2x.)

However, if that's going to happen, switching to 50-cent value tokens (rather than quarters), has gone from being a good idea to being an urgent idea. Just do it: 10 tokens for five bucks.

There's a huge psychological difference between having to put two coins into a game as opposed to one, especially for the nostalgia-minded clientele of Rusty Quarters.

Wishing RQ the best...

Maybe 3 games for a buck but 50 cents a game is a bit risky! You will find out quick as most of us are in the 40 age range. For pins 50 cents a game is ok for high end pins. Hey its your business so do what you want and test the market.

Yeah, good luck. You can barely pay the bills at the games priced at 25, and you are going to raise it a quarter? People will play less and leave. I say you rethink your game strategy, go with newer games, redemption and just have some classic games as filler games for the older people waiting for their kids to play.

I hope I'm wrong, but unless you have newer stuff, the fad of playing these older games gets old!!!

I just visited Pinballz Arcade in Austin, TX and that place knows how its done. They have 100+ pinball machines(some priced at $1.00 a play), but they also mix in the newer games to keep the younger, no pinball crowd in check as well as older filler games.

I don't think 50 cents a game is going to go over too well with the average customer. If you had offered that price when you opened your arcade it might have been slightly more acceptable but raising the price 100% now is a major turn off. Especially after you have hit people up for "donations" to keep the place afloat for a few months.

I think you ought to use tokens only in the arcade and offer 5 for $1.00 instead. People would probably end up spending more since typically people do not want to leave with tokens. Then you could also offer specials like 6 or 8 for $1.00 on slow days.

well business is business and speaking of which I'd buy some that retro console stuff mail order if he'd do that. I still have quite a few NES game I wana play..lol

Most of the advice you're getting here is BS. It is not KLOVs members coming in and paying the rent, but rather, the casual player.

To that end, you should charge an hourly fee, or a play all day fee, and just put everything on free play. This idea is not going to be popular with people here, but them again, the people here offering all kinds of advice arent paying your rent!

If you get 60 people a day that spend an average of $3 each (some people come in and play one game, some people play ten), you're making less than 200 bucks a day. If you charge $10 for a play all day pass and capture half the people, you're still coming out ahead.

Ill say what i said in the first thread you started, before you opened your store. The pay per play idea will not work in your model, even at 50 cents in the year 2012. You cannot do the volume necessary to pay bills, maintain, and pay yourself at even 50 cents a game.

Mike

Why are threads made about this over and over so people can say the same damn things over and over. How about there being only one thread about this?
