SO after just having a bad day at Rusty Quarters (Lack of sleep, shitty lunch, private party mid-day, and coin mech problems) I do what I always do when we close; Lay down on the floor with my dogs. Everything was cool. I was listening to Aerosmith. Bailey (huge brown french bulldog) was laying with me (stuffed toy in mouth) and Bosco (runty white french bulldog) was licking my forehead and I was kinda falling asleep in a puppy coma when CRASH! I jumped up and saw cops busting down the front door to the arcade. Turns out that someone passing by thought I was unconscious, suffered a heart attack, or was shot due to a robbery gone bad...

The police said that they knocked on the door but because of the music, me falling asleep with the dogs, and being close to the huge wall mounded fans (Gets hot in the arcade) I didn't hear their light taps. They said that they had no choice but to break the door down.

Took me about 3 hours to clean all of the glass and it's going to cost $350 to fix, which is alot for a Mom & Pop Business. We have insurance but 1) our deductible for damage is $1K and 2) isn't covered since the police had probible cause to smash the door to shit.

I really thought we were being robbed...

dang

Well the expense sucks but you have a good story to tell for years... Plus nice to know people - and the cops were looking out for you.

Great arcade! Always have a blast there :)

Don't be mad at the cops for that, it sucks but they did nothing wrong. As far as repairs, yeah, that sucks too but thats the life of a business owner :)

As a retired police officer I feel bad for you but I can't help but laugh. The reason they kicked in your door and did not wait to find the land lord is because they knew you were opened for business not long ago so they felt there was a chance of saving you. With that said we all have story's of rushing into help someone that does not need help. They may have have not shown it but im sure they felt bad even if they were laughing after finding out you were ok. Besides there's a good chance they will never live this down. A police locker room is a very tough place for big time screw ups.

I probably could have looked through the glass and saw that you were breathing, and I bet I could have knocked harder than they did.

That... really sucks. I suppose I'd be happy there was no collateral damage other than the door.

I've never been down to Rusty Quarters but I've been meaning to go for a while. Looks like a great place you've got set up.

we've been replacing windows with Laxan? lately.. seems to hold up really good.. They claim some of it is bulletproof..

Overall It's a pretty funny situation and I told the cop that did it that it's better to be safe than sorry. I'm just pissed that we closed mid day for a party and the profits from that are going to fixing the door instead of making up for our slow tues and wed this week.

We do ok for a mom and pop shop but still $$$ for a new door does put a dent in this weeks totals.

Have you ever been in a situation that you had a split sec to act? Never 2nd guess someone for trying to save someone's life. Sure they could have sat there and knocked for an hour but what if he just stopped breathing? The longer you wait the harder it is to restart the breathing/heart. If it was my family laying on the ground I would want them to rush in rather keep knocking because he maybe ok.

Cops love doing that stuff they really got a hard on for it,I have a bunch of friends(one is my best friend)that are cops and they readily admit to loving kicking in doors. Here at work(apartments)when they have a welfare check call and the resident dont answer,BOOM down goes the door even after i say"gimme 30 seconds i have the key" nope just BOOM!

Morbidboy is lucky to be alive on some level. Nearly every week I read a story about the cops killing someone they were supposed to be "helping" or checking on. Read this:

Marine veteran Kenneth Chamberlain Sr. killed when police responded to his medical emergency

From the article:

One of the family's lawyers is Mayo Bartlett, a former Westchester assistant district attorney. He and the dead man's son said someone can be heard screaming at Chamberlain on the LifeAid tape:

"I don't give a f--k, n----r, open the door!"

One of the people banging outside was also reportedly heard yelling: "I need to use your bathroom to pee!"

Others were taunting Chamberlain's military service after they discovered he was a former Marine.

Wow. Sounds like this has the potential to make for another ongoing national storyline...
