I've got some rust forming on my taxi wireforms. I'm sure I can figure out a way to get it off (vinegar, lightening, never dull, lime away, CLR, steel wool, etc.), but what do you guys do to keep it from coming back?

I saw a guy on youtube that painted his yellow. I'm not really sure I like how that looks.

What ever route you choose to clean em up - but then I'd simply break out the Krylon clear rattle can and lightly shoot them over a series of one coat per day to ensure it cures out. I know the can states 2 hours till dry but I'd rather be safe than sorry,.

On legs and other chrome surfaces, I use a mild pot and pan scrubbing pad with turtle wax chrome polish. With a little rubbing effort, you can remove most of the rust(if not too bad) and it leaves a fine wax coating after removal to keep it from coming back.

i have heard of people using wax to prevent rust return as the above poster suggested. sounds like it should work fine.

of you could get them re chromed or something else $$$ i am sure :)

Ed, you could probably dip it/them in a water and CLR solution to get the rust off then coat it with a wax or polish but your best bet would be to have it rechromed. I know a guy who'd prolly do it for $15-$20.

I wax em, never had rust return. It's bound to come back someday, that crap never sleeps ya know.

Thanks for the tips.

shar - I thought about it being a humidity problem in the room, but I've got two other pins in the room and nothing's rusted on them. I HAVE had the glass off of the taxi for a few months while I'm in and out of there fixing it.

that stuff rocks. we used to use it on dumpsters down at the garbage/recycle center. just paint it on and it chemically changes the rust. wait 30 minutes for it to turn black/brown and paint. with the extra i paint it on my truck rust areas and i forget about it.

ace hardware carries it but not my local one. i had to buy a case of it.
