So the game seems to coin up and start fine, although there's some weird little sprite issues when the title screen comes up. When you start playing the game, everything looks great until you get up higher on top of rocket trucks or other structures. When there are moving sprites towards the top of the screen, they seem to be made of blocks and there seems to be double images of the sprites that are sort of flickering blocks. Just wondering where I start with this. It's been like this since I got it. And again, game plays fine, just these upper screen graphics glitches.

I always thought stuff like that was related to loose or corroded legs in the sockets...? (Of the game ROMs)

I did notice one chip socket had a little plastic broken off the side, so the upper part of 3 chip legs can be seen. I checked the manual, but couldn't find the board schematic to see if that chip location is graphics related. I suppose I could replace that socket to rule that out, but knowing me, I'd probably damage the entire area just to remove the socket.

I also (accidentally) let this burn in for almost 3 days and nothing changed. The exact same graphics issues were there and no new ones appeared.

Schematics are at the end of the page.

Do you happen to have -5V going to the board? See this note on the Konami Classic pinout. Says that if you send -5V to a Konami board that doesn't need it, then it can cause strange artifacts on the display. Just throwing that out there. According to the schematic, Green Beret doesn't need -5V.

Yes, I'm sure that I do. It's in my multi-jamma rig and I think all voltages are hooked up. I'll try disconnecting the -5 V and see what happens.

Got a couple pics of my PCB and of the broken socket. It's at position 10C.

But looking at the schematic, I'm not sure which one it's supposed to be. The board labels them 7C, 8C and 10 C and the schematic labels them 7C, 9C and 12C so I'm assuming 10C on the RNA board is 12 C from the GB schematic?

I believe, your "12C" is a "10C" in the schematics. ;)

The 8C on the board appears to be a misprint. The Z80 directly next to it is named 9A. 🤷‍♂️

As mentioned above, it looks more like a RAM failure than a ROM failure.
Check the 6264 and the 4416 in the upper right corner of the board.
Hopefully, it's not the custom.

Follow SamW's advice. Solid. But I'd replace the sockets first, obviously at least one is compromised from your pic. Then you know they are good. Otherwise, you are just chasing ghosts...

Yeah, I get it. I've had this board for probably 12 years or so. It came in a Rockola cabinet that I eventually restored to a jump bug. I don't know if this game always had this problem, or if it just happened over time since I've owned it. But the only thing I've ever noticed physically was that broken socket. I think I ordered replacement sockets 10 years ago and never installed them. Probably about time I do that.
