Rush 2049 accelerator rolling on its own / blowing pots?

I have two Rush 2049s that I've now replaced three accelerator pots across the two, and I'm wondering if maybe I'm not putting them in right or there's a board problem damaging them or misinterpreting the resistances. The symptom in-game is very slow acceleration (in one case it was pretty much impossible to reach 4th without using manual and shifting very early). In the controls test, the screen shows the input "rolling", that is, after pressing the pedal all the way down, or releasing it, or in both cases, the screen shows the input counting upwards or downwards, as if the pedal is moving very slowly towards its actual position. Is this just bad pots? Are they getting beaten because I'm putting them in wrong? Maybe a board issue? Any advice would help.

What pot are you using? The manual for SF rock edition calls for a 5014-12909-00 on the pedals. That's the same 5k pot used in the steering wheel. Not sure if this means anything for your problem, but I tried to replace that steering pot with a cheapo 5k pot from $hit Shak ,and it just didn't work right. Guess it had different tolerances or something. I ended up buying the 5014-12909-00 from Happ Controls. That did the trick.
Also I'm not sure about the foot pedals, but the wires on the steering pot was hooked up as follows:
pin1 black wire
pin2 yellow wire
pin3 red wire

If I had two identical machines I'd start swapping parts from the good one to the bad one till I isolated the problem....
