My transformer went bad, shorted and was throwing all 120v through the the black light. Didn't check voltage until after light #2.
Does anyone know where to get the correct replacement transformer?

You can go to walmart and buy a t8 light fixture for under the cabinet for like 8 bucks. I did it, took the light out put my bl in and left all the old stuff in there unhooked. Looks great.

Confused. They are supposed to get the full wall voltage. I always throw away the original ballast and replace. I wonder if yours is bad. I think a bad one will ruin the bulb?

I just replaced an atari system 1 cab's ballast that was blowing the bulbs - I blew two before figuring out... The bulb is supposed to take 120v so my guess is that it's the ballast... You can get the old school ballasts at Hope depot for $5 or you can replace with digital ballasts that don't "hum"

Yes, Home Depot sells the ballast. To be safe, for it to work, and to not have to worry about it, replace the ballast, starter, and bulb. Don't replace with a new fixture. It's too easy to repair.

expensive oops. I did it with tron. I was putting in untested BL blulbs, so maybe I wasted 2 of them. I learned never put a new bulb in an unknown light fixture.

I usually save/keep some old bulbs that barely work/burnt side when I am testing out light fixtures. but the proper way is to meter the ballast. I think it should be about 25 ohms.

here is an old thread. Walmart sold them for $7

+1 on this. Keep it original. Not hard to do at all, it's cheap, and you will feel much better about yourself, your arcade, your fellow man, and the world at large...

:D

No plan on replacing the fixture.
I was just wondering where to get a new ballast.
That was the original question. I'll hit lowes today.

In a pinch I usually buy the $8 dollar hard cheap fixture at Home Depot or lowes - and then pull the bulb and the super cheap digital starter which is a tiny exposed PCB... It's not pretty but it's always hidden... That way I can keep the sick fixture in place...

I second ace/westlake/roach for ballasts. About six bucks. Home depot has them too. I usually replace them in Atari cabs.

I don't know about ballasts but I got 2 starters for about $2 from Menard's (its a midwest thing). Fixed the light in my Zaxxon.
