I have a Japanese version 911 which is showing the RTC self check error.

I have changed the m48t58y-70pc1 chip which is a Timekeeper chip but somehow the game is still not working.

Do I have to re-program some data into the chip? If I do, how can I do that?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, if you have an EPROM programmer that supports it, just burn the dump from MAME. I hope you installed a socket, and didn't solder the chip directly in.

The other option is to burn a new CF card with the european Police 24/7 CHD (p911e)... according to channelmanic ( http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showpost.php?p=3237060&postcount=9 ), if you go into test mode with that card, it'll initialize the NVRAM for you (I haven't personally tried though).

That doesnt work on Konami Viper PCBs. The rtc must have code written to them prior to use.

If I remember the dumps I sent in it should be this one...

Did you see the post I linked to? Police 911 was only ever on Viper, right?

Channelmanic has repaired several Viper boards with bad RTCs, so I assume he knows what he's talking about.

My butt's not hurt. ;) I just wanted to make sure you saw what I was referring to... you were saying it didn't apply to Viper, but I was talking about Viper.

If you're saying Channelmanic is wrong, that's fine... as I said, I've never tried (I've just always burned the NVRAM before installing it), but thought that was an interesting find that might help those without burners if it was true.

Lol....I agree if it works. There has to be a better way than dumping and burning these. I couldnt get the pcb to go into test via the dips before, Ill try it with code 1 dispatch since there are not any working dumps of the rtc.
Code 1 dispatch the rtc is specific to the pcb. That is the only Konami Viper to have that protection that I am aware of.

Well I tested with the compact flashes I had at the bench.

I can confirm that it works only on police 911. RJ is correct! It works on 911

Tested and failed on
Jp3
911/2
24/7
Mocap Boxing
Warzaid
Tsurugi
Code 1 Dispatch

The only thing I can think of is that version is used for the upgrade to 911/2. So with the upgrade dongle it must write info the rtc. So why have it work with only on game and not any of the others? I wish I knew how Betson writes these. Do they have original code from Konami?

Cool... thanks for checking that! Is Betson actually able to revive Code 1 Dispatch? If not, they've probably just got an intern that knows how to burn MAME dumps to chips. ;)

For Code 1 Dispatch... I'm guessing it uses data from the DS2430? Has anyone dumped the NVRAM and DS2430 from a good board?

No they dont use the mame dumps. Many of these were socketed and replaced years before the dumps were sent into mame devs. So how did they get the rtc code? Konami? Some master way of initializing the rtc like police 911?

I have it but no way to burn it to the Dallas chip
Ah... I can dump/burn those Dallas chips. Though I noticed that the new chips (you can buy from Digikey/Mouser) seem to draw slightly more current than the old ones (causes problems because it's a 1-wire device), and aren't quite a drop-in replacement on the Viper boards. You can re-burn the original though, or modify the board.

Ah... then yeah, I'd guess they got something from Konami. Maybe the dumps, or a computer that they provided with the programming hardware and software... or maybe a special CF card that runs on the Viper board to program in place. Or, maybe there is a secret way to initialize the RTC (jumpering some combination of pins on the edge connector or something).

Thank you for all your replies.
Unfortunately, I have limited knowledge for steps provided.

Is there a way I can get / buy the chip (M48T58Y) with data or download / send the data file for me to program?

The name on the board says Shinjuku 24 hour instead of police 911 Japan version.

Thank you everyone in advance.

It's real tricky if you're not good or don't have the right equipment. I just mailed my whole board to Mr Sinister and he did it for me, he's a great guy.
