RTC Self Check Error

I have a very hard time believing Konami would time-bomb these games by putting non-recoverable data in a NVRAM that has a 10-year rated lifetime... that just doesn't make sense. Has anyone actually looked at the data stored in it to see what it is? On the games I've replaced them on they just get re-initialized when you go into setup and reset... so I assume they just hold bookkeeping info.

Code one dispatch rtc is different from police 911. There are 3 different versions of police 911 that you could have. Check your original cf card it will tell you there. Versions should be a00kac02, a00uac02, a00uad02. Each one of these has a corresponding rtc for it to work. Find which one you have and try a new chd image on the other cf card that will work with the correct corresponding rtc.

a00uad02 is chd version UAD
a00kac02 is chd version KAC
a00uac02 is chd version UAC

ok, I'll try the different chd's. the original konami card has the tags 'B11' 'A02' written on it. and that board worked already with the RTC. it was a working set und it failed from one second to the other with the error mentioned.
 
I wrote the corresponding mame chd onto a new card and got the same 'RTC SELF CHECK ERROR'. but as I read guru's information about chdman I'm not sure if that really reconstructs the flash image at 100%. anyway with the original card and the original rtc still the same issue.
 
Yeah chdman can only do so much..thought it would be a good try though. Im out of ideas for now, but ill keep thinking
 
RTC != Flash

They are two different chips and 2 different technologies.
 
yes that's right but as i wrote - chdman (last version) was used to write the image to the CompactFlash, not the RTC (I currently have no burner to write the RTC)...
 
SIGH.

Got the board back, great work and great packaging.

But now it is giving BAD on 6F and 3C.

I found those labels on the network cards used to link two or more games.

Are those the two chips that are bad? The POST says 6F and 3C. If so, will the game work without network cards?
 
I get the same error if the network board is installed or not. BAD 6F and 3C. Anyone know where I can buy a replacement network board? I have another Racing Jam on location. I will try to swap out the network board on the working machine and see what happens.
 
Nah, I was up there today, but that location was really busy, and I didn't feel like taking the game apart. I will wait until it's a bit warmer. It's in the low teens here.
 
I was asking channelmaniac to burn me a replacement RTC for my Police 911/2 but no answer so far and therefore I cannot try and confirm that this works.
 
I'm not sure if the problems he's facing with the board is due to problems with his game, or problems with the code that was programmed into the chip. I don't know the structure of the data that goes into the chip and if there is specific data that has to be programmed in to match serial numbers or configurations.

I can program a chip for you if the NVRAM data is available on the MAME dumps, but I don't know if it will work for you or not. If your board is socketed for the RTC chip and you have a chip drop shipped to me from Mouser, I'll slap some code on it and send it out to you. PayPal me a few bucks to cover the shipping and a cheap burger and I'll get it out to you in a day or 2 after getting the chip.

BUT... with all that said... I just checked:

*SIGH* you are right, I don't get the code with the latest mame dumps. MrSinister are you able to provide the chip for dumping ? @channelmaniac, how much would be the risk to ruin the chip while dumping it ?
 
There's always a risk... things get lost/damaged in shipping, static issues, etc.

It's small, but it's there.
 
I'm just telling this as he's the only one I know who has a working Police 911/2 and want's to keep it working :) ... and this game is very rare to my knowledge
