Roy Clark, The Entertainer... Cleaning tips / links?

I know this has been posted a million times. Whats the best way to clean a playfield? What kind of chemicals should I use? This doesn't look like mylar to me and it is real dirty.

http://arcadeparts.org/RoyClark/

We have already taken the machine and cleaned it up enough where we could bring it into the house. Not a bad little cocktail pinball all in all and the free price was right.

Anyway a few tip's on how to clean this playfield would be awesome.

I also would like to ask where should buy some new lights, rubbers and 100 pt caps.

Novus 2 on the playfield to clean polish then finish with a good quality carnuba wax.

I like Pinball Life for my supplies, but you may need to go to Pinball Resource to find the correct bumper caps. Good luck.

+1 on Novus 2 and some elbow grease, it will work wonders, and +1 on Terry over at pinball life, they should have everything you need.

If you come upon any extra parts for your machine, please keep me in mind. I need a couple parts that I have not found yet.
Thanks, and good luck with the pin.

So, how is the Roy Clark doing? I think I have mine finished except a couple plastics that need replaced, and I can't get the second red light going up the center to light up.

I have it 100% apart and all bagged up with a lot of pictures. When removing the very last piece (a side rail) I cracked the darn playfield. I have put the machine in my public storage bin down the street. My girl says she is going to fix the cracked playfield and other issues once it cools off a little. I am gonna wish her luck because I think the whole machine is toast. We do have most of the materials here to attempt the repair's to that playfield so all I can do atm is wait on her. I hope she does well and finds a little niche working on them.

Been at this for 10+ years and have used a lot of product. Aside from the standard Mills wax and Novus products, Mr. Clean Magic eraser is an EXCELLENT way to pre-prep a field (before Novus) and pull the deep dirt out of the minute cracks.

Also - an automotive product that cleans meticulously and leaves a deep shine - Mother's Mag Wheel polish. No joke - it really dissolves dirt and leaves the paint quite clean and glossy. Finish off with Novus.

As in all product recommendations, if you have little comfort level, try first on an inconspicuous spot before going after the visible areas. Best wishes!

Chris

I hope you can do it. I know a lot of people talk crap about this machine, but me and the kids love it. If it doesn't work out for and you want to come off some parts please let me know. But honestly, I hope you get it up and running.

The all time greatest cleaner for cabinets, playfields and plastics. I use this on everything. I bought several pins that had been in storage in a damp basement for 25 years. They had dirt, mold, grime and cig smoke all over them. Spray it lightly and wipe it off and then use the magic eraser with water (go easy with the Magic Eraser). I have used it on everything and have never had any issues with it causing harm.

I hear that you shouldn't use water on the fields, and that you should use alcohol.

In general, water and wood are "incompatible", BUT, we're not talking about long term exposure here, and for the most part, the wood is sealed by the silkscreened paint and factory clearcoat, so the water really can't get in. Any that does usually evaporates within a reasonable time.

I wouldn't clean the playfield with a garden hose. I take the magic eraser dip it in a small bowl of water, ring out the excess and use that on the playfield. Next, immediately wipe the excess and grime off with a paper towel. Continue to rinse the ME in water each time until it is used up. It helps to cut the ME into smaller squares with scissors, they get into hard to reach areas easiers that way.

So do people generally use novus 2 AND a wax? or is just using novus 2 enough?

Also what about windex as the wetting agent for magic eraser?

And do you novus 2 the playfield plastics too, or novus 1?

edit: should I just make a new thread every time a thought pops into my head or I need help, instead of finding existing threads on similar subjects and adding my question? I assumed the latter would be better to cut down on forum clutter/spam but it seems no one actually pays attention unless you make "I bought my first pin" thread #985.
