Rowe R-89 and repair questions

Just got my first jukebox a Rowe R-89.
It has a view problems, but I got it very cheap!
OK, the lights work, HEY EVEN the front and top dancing lights!!!!!
The keypad is in very goodi condition also.

So the bad, it doesn't select or play 45s. The carousel will spin when I press the test: Scan and Cancel.

The OBA Control unit FAULT light is lite.
The CCC show Er 30, but the +8vdc light is on. (service stick shows repair on 9-1-11)
And none of the Mechanism Control lights are on.
Looks like the coin/bill mechs are disconnected, theres a loose plug at the bottom (see 2nd photo)

I do not have a manual yet, just ordered one.
Where should I start?
If you need more photos let me know!

Thanks

I just thought of one more thing. The man said it worked before he moved it 100 miles. Then I just moved it another 150 miles. So I should look for cold solder joints I'm thinking. Where should I start? The power unit? In the CCC?

Thank you
Steve

Hello Steve,

If you can solder correctly then solder the molex connection pins to the board only DO NOT go over the component soldering! It is a pain for someone like Bruce or myself to try and sort out when the board ends up being looked at by a professional engineer and costs the customer more because we are not looking at a fresh board.

Thanks Alan, I did that last night. (I am great with a solder iron:) )
I still have that Err 30 on the CCC, which I read might be the Opto.

During some other test last night, the 45 Arm did come down to remove a 45 and the needle did move over and back. I can enter a selection, and nothing happens after that.

Does that sound like an Opto problem?
So far the power has tested fine throughout the Jukebox.

Hello Steve,

I have posted on another forum but I will also reply here.

Do you have only error 30? some errors stop the jukebox working until it is switched off and back on again.

To see all error currently on the jukebox whilst in SERVICE on the service switch. Use 666 to check for multiple errors before using 699 to clear all errors.

If you still get the error back on after resetting it the Rowe Ami suggestion is to replace the opto switch after first checking the opto switch adjustments.

The opto switch should have a red plug, if it is white it is off a R-84 to R-88 mechanism and is unsuitable.

Thanks again Alan.
There is my main help spot, but I thought I might get more Jukebox help on a Jukebox site! :)
Bruce has also been helping me a good bit, by email!

is the box set on free play or are you able to put credits on it? Seems stupid to ask but I ran a service call to a home only to find out they didn't have credits on the machine to begin with. Alan is very good at Rowe jukes so between reading the manual and any help you get from Alan I'm sure you'll be listening to music very soon. Good luck

Thank you for the post.
Here is the lastest on this jukebox. I sent the CCC, Mechanism Control and the opto to Bruce at AB Jukebox repair for testing. The Mechanism Control and Optos tested and are working fine, but the CCC failed in solo and group testing. I have a replacement on the way.

I still can not find a schematic on the CCC for this model and it's not in the manual. So I feel getting a replacement is a good way to go.

Now if it doesn't work, I can rule out those three things!

Hello Steve,

Good to hear that Bruce has sorted you out, if the CCC has failed on test then that is or should be be your problem.

The CCC on the R89 onwards is as cheap as chips and fairly easy to get hold of unlike the CCC used in the R-84 to R-88 which currently in the USA is around $100 for one working or not.
