So I just bought a Rowe R-87 and love it, I notice that when I pick a song on any record that the volume is really loud and then drops to where it was when I set it originaly.

I pick a song a let it play for a few seconds and adjust the volume to where I like it and the next song will crank much louder then I had it set for and then the volume will drop down to where it was that I liked it.

I'm thinking that I need to replace the two big Caps on the Amp (as well as the rest in the amp too while I'm at it) as this seems like a power drain issue but I wanted to see if anyone here that knows these guys better than I knew something better :)

Thanks for any and all help!!

Someone suggested the AVC switch on the AMP but there isn't one to switch :)

It's does seem like something does control the volume level but again I'm new to jukebox repairs & adjustments and just hoping for a little guidance on my small issue ;)

EDIT; Looks like I do have an 40db AVC built into the preamp that is NOT adjustable and my issue is in the time a song ends to the time a song plays and the mute switch is released.

If the unmute signal is given before the record plays then the amp will jack up the volume untill the audio level is again auto adjusted back to proper volume (about 5 seconds of play) depending on the output of the music selected. So there's nothing wrong with my Caps :)

UPDATE; After all the reading about how the AVC works I thought I needed to test it's operation and of course it failed!! So I looked at the mute switch and it was working properly but with no record playing the amp would not mute, so after following the complete ciruit for an hour or so I found that it had to be in the amp because everything else was working as expected. I noticed that when I unpluged the Mute plug from the amp that it would go into mute so the amp must be working so what's the deal?

I pulled the amp and followed the 2 wires to a plug just laying inside and pluged it back onto the preamp board where it should have been all along and that solved it!! Simple problem and it's all solved, Big thanks to the Lady who lead me to the problem with the AVC switch suggestion, that is what lead me to my problem so Thanks again!!

I sure love this jukebox!!
