Have a problem with my R-83
been play fine up to today
was changing some records out, play fine.
turned it on today, unit is in test ( tried in normal with credits )

when you select a number- either a one or a two- it will show the digit when pressed but when you release the button the display clears son no other number can be pressed.

checked all connections, powered down but it still has the same problem.

any other ideas???

Thanks

Hello John,

The fault will more than likely be down to dry joints (called cold joints in the USA).
I would check out the following boards:

Selector Logic (right hand side of cabinet)
Memory Unit (on the mechanism/carousel)
Mechanism Control (on the mechanism/carousel)
Power Supply PCB (in the power supply)

When you press the first digit does the reset light flash?

Thanks for the reply Alan- I've resoldered all the connections and made sure there where no other cold solder points on the boards.

no- just the digit shows.

I'm thinking that the selector logic board has a problem.

You might have some dirty contacts in the door switch.

Not 100% sure on your model but the 84's and 85's have them located in the lower left. (Near the Amp and power supply)

After you've put it into 'oper' mode (to change out records, etc) it's supposed to reset when you close the door. (By means of a spring or lever)

Try moving it back and forth (from stop to stop) a dozen or so times, this will sometimes clear the contacts. A Better solution would be to give it a small squirt of contact cleaner before doing the above trick.

R-83 has two switches- one for scan and the other is for operation

both are clean and work!!

thanks CykoMF

idea's?

still have the shitty foam behind the cpu board, moisture issues cause funky problems,...assume no if you have resoldered all the pins but this was my big headache...since I cleaned it and resoldered SEVERAL cold joints on that board, it works great

yep- all joints resoldered and checked

one board does have the older looking foam- will clean & replace it!

Thanks Zen

Hi John,

It has just got to be a faulty selector logic board or the reset light is not lighting when the keyboard numbers 1 & 2 are double stiking, Try swopping out the number 1 button for the 9 or 0.

hi Alan- buttons work and so does the reset light.

I'm 99 % sure the selector logic is toast

thanks for your reply's!!!

Alan- do you has the schematics for adding the background music to the amp??

I'd like to put some satellite music through the unit.

I've looked on line but there isn't anything showing what to do with the in/out pins on the amp.

Thanks

John

Hi John,

Is the amp in your jukebox the original 125 watt 6-07438-02? if so you can put a signal in at the aux output connection P6. aA CD or tape output of around 600mv would be about right.
You would need to remove the mute plug and put up with the noise of the mechanism operating or rig up a switching circuit that bings the mute back into play when the mechanism or transfer motor are in operation.
