Rowe MM5 Jukebox

Thanks Ken
I think this Box took a real shot from something. Found a few more fried wires and the lower speakers are not working. I guess one thing at a time

Hi Terry,

Glad to hear you are getting it together with this jukebox. That diode was well shot, you had better check out those voltages on the power supply before you go much further.

Those "burnt" wires are probably because someone overfused it with a fuse(s) way too large.

Of course I've seen similar things happen from "lightning strike" damage or instances where 220 volts were applied to a 120 volt line.

I am still waiting for the manual, its on order.
I changed the two diodes and now the buttons latch but the search unit runs continuously and never loads a record. If I manually set the pins then it will get a record and play it. Then when it is finish it puts the record back and shuts down like it should. I'm getting close.

Hi Terry,

Does the S1 & S2 open relays on the Search Unit try to pull in?

I suggest that you clean those open relays on the button bank and S1 & S2 on the search unit with a paper taper pulled through the open and closed contacts. Do not use aby form of switch cleaner it will only cause problems, if you need to clean the button switches I would use tapehead cleaner whilst pushing the buttons (do this a few buttons at a time).

Check out the long connector that goes to the search unit that it is fully in line with all the tracks, there is some movement in that plug. Also check that the search unit printed circuit card is not cracked or damaged (if it is cracked outside of the slip rings it can be bridged by soldering wire across the track, I used 30 to 40 amp tinned fuse wire).

I would also check out the relay that is mounted near those diodes.

Hi Alan
Neither the S1 or S2 get power to them, I bumped the contact switch on the S1 and then a record pulled and tried to play, No sound, then I canceled and it put the record back and shut down. This jukebox was in a very oily environment and I have spent hours cleaning. I still need to clean the switches more. I have already tried contact cleaner, so I hope I didn't hurt it to much. I pulled both cubed relays and checked them by touching them with a 12V battery and the operated, so I think they are good. I will go back and clean all the switches again and see what happens.

Thanks
Alan

I've had the "ice cube" style relays develop pitted/burned contacts. I usually pop the cover off the relays and file the contacts. If that doesn't work, I replace the relays.
