I know very little about jukeboxes, beside that I want one, and am looking for some guidance! I looked at this juke today and it plays great, changes 45's easily, and is fully loaded. What pitfalls do I need to look for with this juke. He is looking for $300. Is this a good one? Any and all advice is needed.

Thanks in advance!

Hi

The keyboard was an issue on this jukebox but not as bad as the CTI-2 (R-84 based chest version) on the R-89 it uses a overlay over the keyboard these plastic overlays wear out or split over the years. I still have a new overlay in stock.

One of the worst things on this jukebox was the 10 channel Light Control Unit and being as there is not that many of this jukebox about a replacement unit is hard to find. The CCC's on this range 4-07773-05 (the end two number can vary on the issue) are more reliable than the ones used on the R-84 to R-88 and the cold joint (dry joint) issue is not such a problem.

Check out the selections A & B side also check out the sound and look to see if the speakers have foam surrounds on the paper cones they tended to rot or become brital so check them out by removing the bottom panel to see the front of the bass speakers.

Thanks, good info. What is the value of this juke? Also, I read some info about a conversion kit to CDs. Is that worth while?

i would stay away from thsi jukebox. keypads go bad a lot and they are real hard to find. rowe only made that style jukebox once and it was a failure. the other problem is the light board that never ever works. it looks great when it does but they never do.

the 100 records alone would put you back 300 bucks if you had to buy them at retail and they probably have the title strips already on the box as well. If it works when you looked at it, and take the appropriate precautions to move it, they I don't see why you would hesistate buying a working box if that is something you really want. Rowe jukes have a pretty good sound and are alot easier to work on then seeburg jukes IMO, and parts are still available and if you look in the phone book in your area you probably have a few company's that place jukes in bars and shops that would be willing to help you if you need some service. Gool luck....

I've had my R-89 for over 12 years now with not one issue and it is the best sounding 45 juke I've heard play. My light bars also work and my keypad cover is not cracked or split. The juke gets used every weekend and has not let me down, unlike some of my other arcade games...

Rowe's are built well and are great performers. I would not hesitate to buy another one or to recommend one to anyone.
