Rowe AMI R-85, only get one channel, juke noob needs help

OK, so I pick up the R-85, pulled the mech control board and the CCC board, resoldered and reflowed everything, all good, got it working great. Now, I only get one channel on it. Pulled the amp boards, reflowed some sodler, etc, nothing, re-did the input wires for the two channels, still only one channel on the front two speakers puts out sound. I do get a light hum or scrachiness out of the other speaker, so I flip right to left and the speaker is good. flip the phono plug from the needle, still only one channel. Damn, any ideas why? The three boards int he amp all look good, all the pins have been resoldered, still nothing from the right side. Anything else I can check, I have come this far and this thing is cool, just starting piss me off... Can it be the needle or the wires on the needle?

Hi there,

I have a R-89 that I've owned for 11 years. When I first received it, it too had lost a channel. I contacted the seller who said that both channels worked, a wire must've come loose to reset all of the connectors. I did that with no change.

Anyway, I finally found it, and you've said it already. It had a bad connection on the needle wiring. I reseated the 3 wires (I think there are three - left, right, ground) from the needle cartridge and my missing channel returned. You might ohm out the wires too and see where you are.

Good luck.
Tom

Hi Zen,

Check out that the two pre amp lamps on the pre amp board are intact and that none off the leads have broken off. These are located to the left and right of the volume control plug.
