So I posted this thread about an issue with a Metal Slug cart that I have: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=155648

However, another KLOVer tested it on his 2-slot and it works great. So I am again stumped as to why my 4-slot doesn't like this cart as well as another 2 carts I just picked up.

Here is the scenario broken down:

- I have a 4-slot (MV-4F) in which all the slots work with the following carts: Windjammers, Neo Bomber Man, Samurai Shodown 2, Baseball Stars Pro.

- The following carts work, but come up with graphic glitches no matter which slot I put them in: Metal Slug, Metal Slug 4, Samurai Shodown IV. All three were tested and worked fine on another's 2-slot.

- I have cleaned all connectors on the carts as well as all of the slots on my 4-slot.

So why does my 4-slot hate those three specific carts? Does the effectiveness of the cart depend on whether or not you're using a 2-slot or 4-slot? What else could be the problem?

Any help is appreciated.

Still sounds like you have a dirty slot or an issue with a bad trace on the 4 slot board.

Do you have any carts that work properly on the 4 slot board?

Also, do you have a metal cover on the 4 slot board? They help keep the cartridges aligned in the slots. Sometimes you can see the graphics corruption clear up or change if you wiggle the cart back & forth in the slot.

Yeah, like I said, I have four carts that work fine on all four slots so I know the slots work. So I still can't pinpoint the problem. I do have a metal cover and when I wiggle the carts around, nothing happens.

I know this is a problem that I should present at Neo-Geo.com, but that forum is ridiculous. Not only do that have a minimum post requirement to list in their FS section, but they also have to approve anything that you want to post before it shows up. Seriously, they must have been screwed over bad for them to have more rules than the U.S. Constitution. Lame!

Anyone here that's MVS savvy that can possibly help me pinpoint my issue. I really don't want to buy another 4-slot board to replace this one that apparently works fine for some of my carts. For the life of me, I cannot get these other carts to run clean on this thing.

The good news is I can get the 4 specific carts running clean at once. Just wish I could get all of them to run fine. :(

Yeh, have given up on NG.com, its just painful to deal with, plus the number of arseholes there is impressive.

Try "pulling up" some millimeter the "non-working" cartridges from the bottom-out of the slot they are inserted into. I had similar problems with some cartridges of mine.

Yes, I forgot to mention I tried that as well. Same as when I wiggle them around. Nothing happens. This is just really odd.

I've just come to the conclusion that my 4-slot board has an issue reading specific carts for whatever reason. Luckily, it reads some good ones that I do have. I'm hoping that it can read the 150-1 cart that I will eventually get so I won't have to worry getting all these other games working.

Compare the 'bad' cart to one of your 'good' carts and see if there's extra pins. Then, you can focus on just those pins on the motherboard and see if they look bent or anything.
