Rotate-a-Mon - incab monitor rotation

Hey All,

Just finished up a project to make an easy rotating monitor in a Dynamo HS-1 cab, so here's the history of the build:

James, you're a man after my own heart. I hate having to remove everything in my Dynamo and lift that damn monitor out and place it back in. It's brutal getting it in place properly every time I do it. Is there an easy solution to remove the original frame and put this one in instead, without breaking the original wooden frame to get it out of there?

Probably not, there's almost no clearance for the bearing at the sides. So at the very least I think you can't avoid having to cut/remove the top brace and the middle of the sides & lower braces. Saying that thouhg... the bearing way mounted how I originally had it, on the front side, then it may actually all fit in the standard frame.

This particular cabinet had already been modified to fit a 25" so the original mountings were all gone

I've got to wonder how well that high voltage wire plugged on the side of the tube is take to being moved often, obviously it was never designed for it.

That said I'm probably going to try to build a mini with a 13" monitor using the 450mm version of that ring (only $29 as opposed to $99!), I'm hoping that it may allow me to mount it with the frame intact.

Edit: BTW, I just checked out your Mappy-to-Dig Dug II mod on your webpage, that is DEFINATELY added to my to-do list! :D

It's not under any real stress, but it does end up moving. I'm looking at just mounting the chassis on the bearing as the full 360' rotate would be very useful.

People have done it, I remember a short video I watched once of someone's cab that did that automatically with the push of a button, I can't remember where it was though.

My buddy Dave (dlbagna) built a 19" cab with an automatic rotating monitor (using M.rotate and Mala) and he had his rotating monitor hooked up to a remote switch as well. Pretty slick.

The MAME guys over on the BYOAC forum are doing this stuff all the time.

CRT or LCD ? I've seen a number of LCD's project but not much in the way of CRT's :(

The lengths you will go to in order to avoid working on the multi-Mylstar. :D

This is very cool. Would have loved something like this when I still had my Dynamo cab.

If this would fit in a Nintendo cab.......

..oh and why would you wan it to do 360 ?

Interesting. Does it have any sort of lock or detents at the vert or horiz orientations?

Gotta watch that 360degree rotation... twist up the power the power & video wires. Seems like 270degrees would cover the bases as far as needs, and a stop on each end would prevent over-rotation.
