Rotary Joysticks Stuck / Don't move well - cleaning/repair?

I recently bought a pretty beat up generic cab with a midnight resistance pcb and two rotary joysticks.

The 1p one rotates well, but takes a bit of effort to move in some directions.

The 2p side doesn't rotate at all, but moves okay.

I inspected them and I don't see anything noteworthy (no dead rat stuck in the controller etc. - lol)

I have no experience with these controllers - my guess is that maybe the first needs some sort of grommet and maybe lubricating the second?

Pretty sure its a Wico version. Its got a little board coming off it and a metal bracket at a diagonal angle.

Yes, if that's the case they are the Wico type.

The grommet is frozen to the shaft in the one that won't turn. You will need a press to get it out, or you'll need to cut/dremel the old grommet off. Do not try to hammer it out forcefully, as you will bend and deform the shaft.

The other one probably just needs a new grommet. They use the same grommets as regular 4 and 8-way Wico sticks.

Press - like a drill press and drill it out?

No. A shop press, which can forcefully push the shaft out, without damaging it.

In your case, cutting it off will be the easiest option (and still a lot of work). You can use a hacksaw, if you have a vise or other way to hold it.

Spot on advice!

So I got one of them out - the grommet was stuck. I WD40'd it and it came loose. The stick was able to be pulled through the control panel after separating it from the grommet. So I ordered new grommets for both.

The other - the grommet spins around it, but is still sticking to it, and I can't pull the stick through the control panel. If I could take the handle off, I could pull it out, away from the bottom side of the control panel.

Two things now - I cannot figure out how to get the handle on the other one off, to pull the joystick out. I see a little hole in the handle, but it looks like whatever is in there is rusted to all hell. I am guessing it WAS a little allen-wrench-style screw, but I don't even see what looks like a hexagonal shape to put the allen wrench in. Just looks like a rusted little blob in there.

And on one of them, I accidentally broke the pot removing it.

So my thought now is - (1) probably going to have to cut the grommet out to remove the stick and (2) where can I find a replacement pot for this thing?
