Hi all,

i am the proud owner of an original Joust cabinet trying to face the problems of the Joust PCB. When i turn on the machine, i have the error "ROM ERROR 6" on the monitor and the sequence "2-0-6" is displayed in the ROM board display.

I thought the problem was the ROM number 6 on the ROM board , but with my programmer i gave a check to all the 12 ROMs and all the EPROMs where verified... could it be the Video Decoder ROM (named "Video Decoder Rom 6") ?

Any help will be much appreciated

No. The system has no way of checking the video decoder rom. If you have a spare rom, I would still burn a new 6 and see. after that, check the socket, and the select signals.

If the legs of the ROMs are corroded carefully clean the corrosion off. Some people use red rubber erasers, some people use fiberglass pens (you can get them at automotove stores). I use a small brass detailing brush. Also make sure the legs go into all of the sockets. It is very easy to have one bend under or out side the socket.

And of course, I had one that had a broken trace topside directly under the socket once. Found it by doing continuity checks from each leg of the chip to the next component in the trace....
