Rolling Thunder Monitor - WG K7201

I'm assuming just a degauss isn't going to fix this though...right? I've never messed with the RGB drive/cutoff knobs which I probably have to tweak...? Who knows what the previous owner did to them went the monitor stopped working. The screen has nothing showing up but that red and little green in the corner. Everything else on the screen you see on the screen is burn-in.

you need to degauss the monitor or you will never know if it is that simple or something else.

nothing else will fix a degause issue but a degausing ring.

my rings are cheaper than that ring and are better.

PM sent... I just adjusted every knob just to see if the picture would change at all and it didn't change much... LOL

I guess the other question I have is there is a wire running around the monitor already that I though was for degaussing... is that maybe broken?

yes but they can't handle it as well or completely sometimes and you have to manually deguass it.

PM replied to.

yup, sometimes the internal degauss coil simply cannot do the job.

I just wanted to post a picture of my CRT before my coil comes... which should be later today. I screwed around with some of the adjustments and you can actually see the game a little bit now. Everything is showing up with 3 colors and no matter how much I adjusted the pots in the back and stuff on the neck this is as clear as I can get it. Hopefully a degauss helps clear it up enough to where I can make some minor tweaks to actually get a solid picture.

I messed with it a little bit, but it doesn't seem like that knob can bring something this out of focus back into focus. I need to crack open my Golden Tee and see how far out of focus I can make that to get a better idea. It seems like all the videos I've watched the screen is never anywhere near as out of focus as mine currently is when people show you what the focus knob does on the flyback. I'm not sure WTF is going on with this thing.

After a degauss and some more tweaks this is as good as I can get the picture (see attached image). Any pointers from here would be appreciated (is this a convergence issue? Do I need to move the neck around, etc...). I'm going to pull the entire monitor out maybe this weekend and try tweaking some more and probably reflowing the entire chassis and neck board. I definitely think I need a test pattern generator because trying to get this monitor right is hard using game images.

Any pointers would be much appreciated... never done any work on a monitor at all so I'm not sure what to kind of zone in on to fix what little remaining issue it looks like I have here.

Also, I'd like to buy a CraftyMech TPG, but it looks like it takes months to get one. Does anyone have any other tricks to put some test patterns on a screen until I can get my hands on one eventually?

are you sure you hooked up the focus wire on the new flyback correctly? the focus pot doesnt do anything?

It brings the picture in as good of focus as you see... if I turn it up anymore it whitewashes the screen. Not sure if that's normal...?

if thats all the better focus you get you either don't have it hooked up correctly or a bad flyback or something in the circuitry. i haven't had the pleasure on this model but maybe someone else knows specifically which components could affect the focus.

i would check your neck socket and make sure your focus wire is not frayed or hanging on by a thread.
be sure it is completely soldered or inserted into the socket far enough.

you will also need to get your tube checked if you can.

I think the backlog is down to about a month if you order now.

I'll be pulling the chassis out tonight and reflowing everything... hopefully I get this thing working. I'm begging to think the tube might be shot so we'll see. I called a few local TV shops to see if they could try and rejuv it, but they all seem to work on newer stuff and wanted nothing to do with old CRTs... bastards. If anyone has any pointers on what might be causing this other than the tube... please chime in! =)

Update on my issues... AgentX83 was cool enough to let me come over to his place and take a look at my monitor. Long story short we put one of his known good K7000 chassis on my tube and it still has the same blurriness issue. He also had a rejuvenator that we hooked up to my tube and everything tested good. What else is left at this point? The only thing I haven't done is loosen the neck and start messing around with that. Would that cause a blurry image if it wasn't aligned correctly? I have a TPG coming in the next couple of weeks so I should be able to try adjusting the neck to see if that works.
