I picked up a Rolling Thunder that is playing blind. When I fire it up I don't see neck glow but I do hear the monitor let out a tiny pop every second consistently which I think isn't a totally bad thing if I remember correctly. I want to make sure I guessed the monitor chassis right and also does anyone have any idea on where to start trying to fix this thing.

Let me know, thanks!

no its not a k7000. looks like a k7200 from what i can see but it is 19inch for sure.

Any idea on what is causing the thing to make a clicking noise when powered on? It's very slight click over and over... I remember seeing a video on the John's Arcade YouTube channel where he had a monitor doing the same thing. I need to try and find as it may help me figure out whats wrong with this one.

clicking on the monitor like that is the power supply turning on/off or trying to and shutting down. check your power supply section on the pcb.

K7200. those have switching mode power supplies built in. typically it'll tick if the HOT is blown, or flyback is bad. alternatively, B+ adjustment could be out of whack (caused by caps with SMPS usually, or someone tinkered wrong), or the shutdown pot could be dirty and not making proper contact, tripping the shutdown circuit (which will make it tick-tick-tick)

I've had the great fortune that every 7200 I've come across worked, so I've never needed to fix or test anything on them. I'll check my Randy Fromm blue book to see if there's a flowchart for it. there most likely is. I couldn't google anything.

you'll have to test the HOT first.

I'm going to take a guess, but I don't think my flyback should look like it had an alien inside of it at one point and it decided to burst out of it... I think the HOT is dead too its all crusty around that whole area I hope I can fix this... =/

whats the numbers on that flyback sticker?? i have been testing some 7203 flybacks so i may have a new one around here.

Here are the numbers on the flyback... Yea, it's def a 7201... Will a K7000 flyback work in a 7201?

Last question... there was a red wire not part of the flyback that was wrapped around where the silver piece of metal comes down the side. I attached a picture to show what I'm talking about... Do I need to do that again once I buy a new flyback? What the hell was it wrapped around the flyback like that for?

you will see that on a few different flyback models and no you don't on the new one.

I replaced the flyback, hot and did a cap kit on this monitor because I figured if I was going to have it ripped out why not... I've never done any of them before, but I think I did an alright job.

I went from a totally dead monitor to having one that fires up and has neck glow, but it has crazy colors on the screen. I can see some kind of movement on the screen but for the most part it stays this crazy red color (see attachment)...

Any thoughts? I'm not really sure what monitor knobs to be poking around with... I messed with focus and screen on the flyback but it just made the screen brighter.

glad you got it up and running.

your monitor needs to be degaussed.

use my video to help you get it adjusted.
