Hey all,
Well I acquired another game the other day, Rolling Thunder. It is in decent shape and I got it at a decent price off of CL. The guy also has a Smash TV, Ms Pac and some fighting ones hes getting rid of. Anyways I have always loved this game, and of course have some questions for the house about it.

1) Did it have a marquee light? this one is just flat behind the marquee.
2) Were the sides painted black or black covering (this game is 1/2 each side)
one side has the side art, so hopefully i can find it.
3) How come they are smaller cabs? is there any reason for this?

I have only seen Rolling Thunder around here as a Kit i didn't know it had a dedicated cab.

p1899m: Thanks I was afraid of that. I enjoy seeing the games lit up.

Braido: Yes, this one is dedicated. There isnt much stickers or any numbers around but it still does have the paperwork stapled to the back door and the small items inside.

Love that game! I have a pcb but would have kept the cabinet if the damn marquee lit up!
No lit up marquee, and it uses black vinyl on the sides...
I've had a few of those cabs and would gladly get another one someday when I have alot more room for expansion.

Karl my main man yea Karl...LOL
I agree I hate that the marquee doesnt light up but I shall get over it I'm sure. Thanks for the answers. Its funny to me how short it is.

As far as the cab design goes, I'm pretty sure it was inspired by the Atari System 1 cabs from the previous year/s. The deep open ended control with speaker grille directly above, looks very similar to the system 1's. This was also Atari's first JAMMA title I believe.

Rolling Thunder was the first game I actually paid for and still have mine. $75 and in great shape also. I had a lot of memories playing it in arcades.

congrats jake on the new game! atari also put gauntlets in that same style cab, sadly no backlight in the gauntlets either.

do you know what the seller was asking on the smash tv? love that game, i just need mo' room. chris

Yes, Rolling thunder's cab is very similar to system 1 cabs so much so that system 1 control panels fit perfectly in this cab. I converted my rolling thunder, when the board began to have palette issues, into a segasonic machine because I could easilt use a repro marble madness cp, for sonic's track balls, w/o cab modifications.

It is JAMMA but it uses a wierd wiring harness/adapter thing to interface with the rest of the cabinet.

Also, the weight and design makes it very easy to grab and pull out. Which I love ;) .
