rod and ring assembly for Jet-Bumpers

Ok under the playfield where the jet-bumpers are (3 of them) theres 2 nuts holding the the rod and rings of the jet-bumpers. Now these nuts are screwed all the way tightened to the playfield, leaving the rod about 4-5 inches, now how in the hell I'am going to get them loose and off as my wrench wont work (tight spot and no leverage) socket wrench wont work either because of the 4-5 inch of rod. Haven't tried "deep" sockets but they dont seem they will clear either. Did someone forget to install something to prevent this? Or what tool is needed to get at it? I was looking at the person's post in the thread "Targets" and he posted pictures under his playfield and thats when I noticed his pop-bumpers rod and ring nuts were not tighten to the PF infact they were on top of the rod, so thats what made me look under my PF and saw what I just decribed. Trying to explain this the best I can sorry. Look at the "Targets" thread and see his pictures you will see his pop-bumpers and notice the nuts up on top of the rod instead of all the way to the PF. I would most likely use an open ended wrench. Unless I'm missing something it looks like there's plenty of room to get in there with a wrench and apply some torque. I prefer the box end but would use the open end if I couldn't get the box end in there.
 
Why not post your own "out of focus" pic so we can see what your talking about? hahaha Sorry had to take a dig at ya...

Just playin..but it would help to see what your talking about.

Is english your first language? You seem to say alot of weird things sometimes :/

Good advice Ken :) I use a screwdriver with a socket adapter. Then I can just switch out the sockets to whatever size I need, and I can add on a longer adapter if need be..

Here's a pic of one that is similar to mine. Nutdriver would work of course too :)

I've been using a 5/16" nutdriver on these for years. Always carry that and a 1/4" nutdriver with me in my toolbox.

I'll have to post some pic's when I have my pf up, but none of those sockets or tools you have mentioned or in photo will work :( theres a 4-5 inch rod ) the nut is all the way to the pf, a deep socket like what you have shown will not work, (not deep enough).

That wasn't my picture, that pic was to show how the nuts on that pop bumper were off the PF the nuts for my bumpers go all the way to the pf and sockets and nut drivers wont cut it as they are not deep enough.

In that case a wrench sounds like your only option.
 
I don't think I understand the question. The nuts on the end of the ring assembly don't go all the way to the playfield, they're only threaded about 1/2", a nut driver works fine. Have you reviewed Clays guide for rebuilding pops:

It's for EM games but the pops are almost identicle for newer games.

Name of machine and pictures please of your pop bumper dilema.

BTW, my nut drivers are "hollow shank" style. That means the shank is hollow all the way to the handle to fit over long threaded rods.

I haven't encountered a pop bumper I couldn't take apart yet.
 
A Williams High Speed should be normal pop bumpers. I've changed broken rod and rings on them before with no problems with my usual 5/16" nutdriver.

Thanks Ken I was able to get them off with the 5/16", took the rings off to put up on the buffing wheel, and polished up nice. Now I just got a rubber ring kit in the mail today and instead of the 5" rebound rubber they gave me a 4" rebound rubber, I called them and they confirmed that this size (4") is acceptable fit for the rebound rubber. What do you think Ken? I'am not installing yet as I'am gonna completely shop it, just want all the parts & supplies first.
