Anyone play Rocksmith yet? Thoughts?? I've been contemplating on picking this up but for some reason having a hard time pulling the trigger. My guitar experience is limed to medium level in Guitar Hero… so no real guitar exp at all. I would think that is the highlight of this game, learning to play a real instrument.

I played it at a friend's house.

I'm not interested in tablature style thinking since I know how to read music when playing.
So if you are into riffy tablature for guitar playing, it's probably good. (do you sit in a dorm room with the latest guitar magazine and learn the latest heavy metal riff and call that playing guitar........)

it does teach you the basics if you have minimal experience and just picked up an electric guitar with no formal teacher to guide you.

i suppose if you are a fan of guitar hero this is the next logical step.

Yes i really want to know too.

I read on gamefaqs it is genius and many have learned the guitar by using it.

Figured this had to happen - i mean, i considered the time / effort people were putting into GH a waste since couldnt they use that time to learn REAL guitar?

So this game makes sense, surprised it took so long to appear.

I am debating getting it. If it was "Piano hero" i would do it, i never really wanted to learn guitar, but i am all for playing a game and getting benefits as well.

I am mean, i am looking at 50+ hrs going into Skyrim - what good will that do me?

I bought it. I haven't put much time into it yet though. It really is for the beginner. Both my sons already play the guitar and they weren't too much interested in playing it themselves (too easy). It is handy to have a REAL person around who knows how to play to show you what you are doing wrong sometimes. All that said, I think it can teach anyone to play a guitar without too much effort and the guitar interface works surprisingly well. It will not teach you how to read music though....

I was curious about this myself. Seems like it could be useful, but as a newb guitar player my biggest concern is getting the wrong start instead of just biting the bullet and paying for lessons.

there is no price to put on learning from a real trained musician.
I mucked with the magazines for a few years, got crappy tips from wannabe's and never caught on (not a musician at heart)

then took a year of classical lessons from a Master level musician, (in a college community obviously) and it all came together. the proper technique, the proper reading skills, reminders of where technique needed growth, listening to someone play at a master level during the lesson. it was SO enlightening. totally worth it if you are curious about learning.

Agreed. This does not replace a real teacher for a serious student.

I am not a serious student... yet. This is still a "game" for me that may turn into something more if it turns out that I like it.

The biggest concern I'd have is lag... Is it fast enough to keep up with the chord changes? It would be super annoying to have a slight lag from when you strum and when you hear the note.
