Hello,
I just got my first jukebox and would appreciate any advice I can get. The Rockola Grand Prix works, but has three issues:
1. Slight "worble" when playing. Was missing its idler wheel when I got it, but picked up a new one from victory glass. Plays but sound goes slightly in and out of pitch.
2. Selects the correct record only about 2/3 of the time. Sometimes it selects wrong selection (mostly near where the correct one would be) or just cycles through to the stop position. I think this was caused by moving the juke to my house.
3. Sound quality is ok, but usually after about 15 min. of play, sound will all of the sudden cut out, them come back on after a while.

I'm totally new, so any suggestions on where to even start would be really appreciated! Thanks.

Rockola help

Hi Danny,
First piece of advice: get a factory service manual. Rockola's have an excellent theory section that shows the sequences the machine goes thru.
As to the speed varying, I would check that the turntable is true, not slightly bent. Best way to check is with a known good one. Also, make sure the end of the motor armature is not worn (where the idler rides). Keep in mind that motors from some earlier boxes are different and won't readily interchange (the motor from my 1454 is different from my 1488 is different from my 418. 418 and 425 motors are the same. ) Lastly, always replace the rubber grommets that support the motor.
For the selections not being consistent, make sure the select arm is braking. there is a light bulb that should flash as the arm indexes, providing braking.
For the amp, you should replace the caps, kits are available (Vern Tisdale). I would be looking for an intermittent connection, or a component that is failing thermally. If you've never worked on a amplifier or have limited electronics experience, it would be better to farm that out.
