At my day job today I had a client with one of these machines and when I asked about it they said it had stopped working after their son had bumped into it.
I asked if I could take a look and opened it up and turned it on. All of the lights including the voltage lights came on, the carousel started spinning, the speakers started loudly blaring like they were shorting out,
and the front display also wasn't lighting up. unplugged the speaker output from the amplifier and started looking for anything out of place.
The only thing I could see was some Molex connectors that were unused and what appeared to be an unused internal volume control box.
I turned it off and plugged the speakers back in and tried adjusting the volume knob on the back of the machine and all it did was change the pitch of the whine from the speakers.
I also tried using the operator buttons on the inside of it and none of them did anything.
If anyone could help point me in the right direction or lives in the north east Ohio area willing to take on the repairs for them they are willing to pay to fix it.

Love when people blame the kids/grandkids when their old-ass machine stops working. This sure sounds like a jukebox that was on borrowed time for a long time.

The blaring noise from the speakers reminds me of a Rockola I worked on a few years ago... if not a 478, a model very close to that. It wound up being a single transistor in the amplifier. One of the legs had *just* separated from the body of the transistor, so that when it was barely touching, it would sound fine, but when barely *not* touching, it made a loud blaring sound like you're describing.

This thing clearly needs a jukebox person to take it under his wing and give it the love it deserves. Surely there's someone in Ohio who can help.

If they want to load it up and bring it to Kentucky, I could probably take it on sometime in 2026...

About 13 years ago, I brought home my uncle's 478 that was shorting out and making a god awful sound at random times, especially when I touched the cabinet.
I opened up the amp and removed the protective plate shown below to inspect. Cant remember exactly, but I think there is supposed to be a piece of fish paper between the plate and the green pcb.
I left the plate off and it hasn't made the sound since. I still have the plate ready to be reinstalled at some point. Im scared to put it back on
