This is my 1st jukebox I have ever had, so here is goes the person I bought it for said when he stored it 10 yrs ago it worked, I got it for $50 dollars he just wanted it gone. I got it home and plugged it in and pressed the buttons to select song 1st button selection lit up then the 2nd but no third (maybe just the light) but then nothing. the selector that says scan, Off, Open is in the off position (is that correct?) when you go to scan it turns the records, when you go to Open it turns the records until it comes to the big gap where there is no records. the turn table does turn if you press the mech button. any help would be great.

The switch needs to be in the open position. That gap is the "home" position. It tells the jukebox where the first spot is so it know how to find whatever selection you pick...

Rock-Ola operation - I can help!

Ok, let me see if I can help you out here. The scan switch you are working with is for Scan (replacing records), Off (Standby) and Oper(ate) which is where the switch must be for it to 'operate'. Now, for the selection process. The first button selects the 'side' of the record to play and when pressed the 'first number' light should turn on a section of the selection wheel is energized. The second button turns on the 'second number' light and energizes a specific 'SCR' with in the 'control' selection box that is mounted on the left side of the cabinet. The third button is the 'work horse' here. When press the 'third light' is turned on and a 'locking solinoid' is activated which holds that third and final button down until the actual selection is made. The selection process causes the inner arm on the selection wheel to turn until it locates the energized selection point at which time it will trip the desired lever on the selection wheel, starts the 'read out' motor process and releases the locking solinoid and turns off all the other selection number lights.

There are basically two sides of the selection playing process, selection and playing (sounds obvious doesn't it). The big selection wheel sits between these two processes. Knowing this allows you to 'test' and work on individual processes and that's the trick to working on these machines. They are simply a string of individual processes that result in something either being turned on or turned off. Because of this, you can test the play side with out the selection 'working'. This is accomplished by 'flipping' one of the levers from the left side (up or down). This simple movement will invoke the 'play process' should the lever be in 'Oper' position.

So.. put the switch in 'Oper' and flip a switch on the wheel and see if she plays.

As far as the third button not working correctly, I can probably help, just need a bit more descriptive post as to what it's doing. A photo might help to.

Oh.. btw... check out my webpage on the repairs of my 450... I think you'll find it very helpful. http://www.rustykey.com/jukebox
