Rochester Game Room Show April 10-11

See you all there tomorrow, I don't know who anyone is by face so you will have to come up to me if you want to say hi. Wearing an asteroids shirt with a picture of the cabinet on it.

So I went up.

Not bad... It was good that it was in the Mall, Saved my girl from giving me the "Can We Go now" look.

Most of the videos were stuff that people have been trying to unload on Craigslists. For instance, the Tetris that was a Frenzy conversion.

Most of the pins were stuff that people were just trying to get rid of, but priced reasonably.

Kudos to the guy that brought quality prize pieces (ATM, Monster Bash, Arabian Knights) and in good shape.

The Arabian Nights was awesome! It really had my eye. They had (2) Addams Family pins that had issues the entire time! There was a Dirty Harry and Sopranos in the Tournament section. Both were awesome. Surprised at the Elvis and Flinstone pins. Surprisingly fun!
There was a Cyclone too. I was disappointed in the Funhouse pin. Rudy's sound was either off or broken. Frusturating!

Norton is completely correct on the cabs. All things people couldnt move. Saw a Centipede and Pole Position that were sold. That's about it.

I was looking forward to meeting some folks. I got to meet 2. Jeff F and his family and Walt. Walt I knew from before. He sold me the Red Tent and I knew him from the PAR forum. Jeff F. was very cordial and his family was nice. Kind of like his posts here on KLOV! He sported the Vidiot arcade shirts and they were numbered. I think so he couldnt lose anyone!

Somehow I missed seeing Chad Doerschel. Norton: I would have liked to have chatted with you, in a non-political way!

Man I wish it wasn't a 3 hour drive because it's killing me knowing the show is going on today and I'm not there again. :D

What a great day yesterday. It was really nice the show was in a very active mall. The wifey and daughter had plenty of things to do when they got bored(which didn't happen much). The son and I didn't get bored until late in the day... mostly he got bored having to be near his nerdy Dad speaking nerd. ;)

The games were fun. I'd say at any given time 15% of them weren't working but it seemed like people were fixing games once they were made aware of them not working. There were a couple video games that seemed to be down the whole day. One game, my old Tempest, had the pokey for the controls die so it was unplayable... you know these games break down regularly but you still feel bad when it's a game you've recently sold. :( Just wish I had a spare pokey with me.

I'm glad we didn't bring my truck with us otherwise I'd be trying to figure out how to get Jason's Circus Charlie down in the game room. I still can't believe you're having trouble selling that for $200 Jason! What a great game and my son couldn't stop talking about it the entire way home.

It was a pleasure meeting you NotreCaine, I wish I didn't suck at name because I met a few people from KLOV and everyone was very nice.

Have to give a big thank you to Tim for giving me one of his extra playfield glasses... that was AWESOME! And after taking it out to the car... I decided to I should treat the other two pins to new glass also. At $25 a glass... it was an absolute bargain.

The folks at CoinTaker.com were very helpful. Some of the games they had at the show to show off LEDs did just that... the colors just seem to "POP" right off the playfield. I bought 110 LEDs at 2/$1 and man I wish I bought more. I spent all morning with our Xenon and damn is she pretty... even with all the missing/peeling paint!

I got a 13" monitor for $60 from Chad for our little Gorf cabaret project. And then I picked up a few smaller parts with the playfield glass from IllinoisPinball.com. Damn do they do some great work!

Overall I'd give the show a solid 9 out of 10. About the only thing I wish was that there were more vendors selling parts... and the neon Snoopy Red Baron sign was $100 instead of $200. :D

We'll have some pictures up on the website shortly...

Shit Jeff, sorry, I didn't even recognize you.

But I remember the shirts.

The show wasn't quite as big as I hoped, but I had a good time playing the games and met some very nice KLOVers: Jeff F, timiskander, SaraAB87 and a even a few of the MAACA guys. The atmosphere was great; it was like being in a real arcade, but without having to carry pockets full of quarters.

I picked up a nice Dig Dug too. Although I need to troubleshoot a ROM error, the game is complete and looks great. (Thanks again Tim and Jeff!)

On the way back I got stuck at customs for 45 minutes. They were pulling everyone over and making them pay taxes/duty, even on $50 claims, so the line up was ridiculous. Still, a good trip, and I hope to bring the family to next year's.

Dale,
Glad you're diggin the game (oops.. bad pun there!). I'm missing it already :D Let me know what you find with that ROM error...

That was a nice DD! Glad you got it. That dude lives 7 miles from my house and has 2 garages full of games. I'm still waiting to hear if he found that WOW for Tai95, tho. Nice score for you, eh!?!

I think you're thinking of Eric Henning, who had the other dig dug in the "main" room. He's got piles of games! ... I have 2 garages full to, but most of them don't work :(

cheers
/Tim

Dig Dug

Glad to see someone picked up that dig-dug. I thought the show was cool, haven't been around here long enough to pick people out at a show. I was carrying around a 1.5 year old boy. He loved looking at the screens on the games, played the multi-game machine with the LCD. Quite the crowd of kids having the Xbox tournament in front of gamestop.

Jeff,
I didn't know who it was with the Vidiot shirts till reading this post, nice that the whole family participates wearing the clothes. :)

I had a good time yesterday, I like the idea of it being in a mall as well that way you can bring people and they won't have nothing to do if they don't like video games. This probably works out very well for a lot of people. The mall was easy to find right off the thruway and it was a nice sunny day for once (the other 2 shows I went to in Rochester had less than ideal weather) so for once this show got a decent weather day.

There is a reason I don't go over the border these days... before customs never used to bother anyone going over, now it looks like its much different. Probably taking advantage of the barrage of Canadian shoppers that this area is seeing though.

I saw the vidiot shirts, but I didn't know it was someone from here, sorry for not saying hi. You probably saw me, I was the girl in the asteroids shirt.

Chad was in the smaller room with the sinistar cockpit, he took my picture in front of the game for me, thanks. I almost missed that room, good thing I eventually found it.

I didn't even know there was a second room.

Anyways, Any info on what might have sold?

I might bring some machines next time. Nothing special, but just to see if I can get rid of them.

If I were to have brought machines, I probably would have brought my Neo-29. I don't think that I would have brought the Mortal Kombat. That thing is two damn heavy .
