I have seen this before and cannot remember what causes it...when I turn on my Robotron it comes up in the test menu. I can push the test button and it goes right in to the game mode. Works great...just comes up in test mode. I have replaced the batteries. Thoughts?

replace the 5114 chip - arcadechips.com sells it for $3.50

Doesn't it do that when the batteries are dead or removed or not connecting well?

I replaced the batteries and they are making contact. Can you provide more details on the 5114 chip?

chip is located on cpu board- bottom right corner- depending on which way the board is rotated. It holds high scores and board settings

My joust is coming up as adjustment failure when I power on. I can hit the test button and it will work fine just like his robotron. I put fresh batteries in mine. Can I also replace this chip to fix the prob?

Sure if that's the problem. I've also found in the past that any faulty power connectors can cause this too.

I reinspected the battery holder and it does look old. I will replace the holder first and go from there. Thanks for the ideas....

Garry

I would give a serious look at that old battery connector. They're junk. It doesn't take much to drop that 4.5V to less than 2V.

Heh. I don't even have batteries in mine :p

I do get that adjustment failure occasionally though on my joust. I've noticed that after the adjustment failure, it shows "extra mount at 000 points" or something close to that message. Sometimes, it doesn't like coining up either. I plan to get the lithium kit when I get a big order ready for bob roberts.

Running a switcher power supply in there will cause it to start up in Test Mode as well.

Yep...the battery holder was toast. It looked good at first glance but one of the post was broken. I replaced it and all is well. Thanks for getting my brain to work. Garry
