I don't doubt this has been posted before, but for those of you who've never heard of this then this is for you.

There is a secret message inside the programming of Robotron 2084. You have to do a series of moves with the joysticks and buttons to get the message to appear.

DURING GAMEPLAY you must do this:

move right, fire up then hit player 1 start: immediately after that you....

move up, fire down then hit player 2 start: immediately after that you...

move down, fire up then keep holding the fire joystick in the up position(don't let go)

This message will then appear:

This is Robotron 2084

Now the best way to do this is kill all but 1 grunt on the first board, then distance your guy from the grunt as far as you can and start the sequence. You have to be quick, but once you're on the last step and you're holding the fire joystick up, the message will stay there as long as you hold the joystick in the up position. When you let go it disappears. The only way I could do it was to have my brother read the sequence to me quickly as I did it, because it can get confusing.

Has anyone else tried this? Its kind of cool, took me a few tries to get it. Its neat that something like this is hidden in there. Just thought I'd share just in case there were some fellow Klov'rs that haven't tried this yet(assuming you have a Robotron to try it on!)

Thats cool. Never heard of that before. Will have to try that on My buddies Robo. I wonder if the Jrok board has that code in it?

There are Easter Eggs in most video games. It goes back to the desire to "stick to da man" as well as the fact that the management of most game companies in the '80s wouldn't identify the programmers to try to prevent poaching by competitors.

If you search, there was a thread that listed a whole bunch of them for different games.

Some of those easter eggs were put there as a way to verify the copyright on location which is why they don't require test or audit switch input.

Have you ever seen the secret audit test in Williams WPC pins? That one's cool too.

Never seen or heard of that; what's involved there?

During the boot sequence, you have to quickly press all 4 coin door buttons like you're rapping your knuckles over and over. The technique is similar to the one players use on Track and Field.

If you get it right, you'll see background audits showing things like resets, ect that can't be reached through the normal adjustment settings. The purpose of this code sequence was mainly to see if there were bugs in new games when they were placed on location, not really beneficial to operators.

I posted the one for Stargate about 6 months ago with pics and other people posted theirs including Sinistar, Robotron, and a few others IIRC. I looked for it but I can't find it.

Pretty cool, anyone have a video? Someone with a Robotron or Sinistar should take some video and post it.
