Robotron ROM 10 failure

Are you sure it's truly a ROM error? Often you'll get those when it's something else, like that ribbon cable. Sometimes reseating the connectors and chips will do the trick.

When I have ROM legs that look like that, I usually clean 'em up with a NON-Metallic 3M scotch brite pad.

Sometimes it will simply clean up with a "Ruby" red eraser rubbed back and forth on the legs.

How does the ROM socket look?

Yeah they were pretty ugly to begin with. I cleaned all of them up and had to reseat number 10 every couple of days to clear errors and keep it playing. Also borrowed a ROM 10 from a buddy and it has been working fine. Found a guy to burn a replacement and should have it in a couple days. Luckily the harnesses are in good shape in this cabinet. Those ribbon cables have stumped me a couple times in the past...

I was looking at my ROM board while I had it out, and it should be noted that the ROM board uses the same shitty single wipe sockets that cause so much trouble on other boards. Might be worth ordering a dozen in and redoing all the sockets on the board if you're getting an intermittent ROM ## error... May or may not be the cause, but at least you can rule the sockets out that way.

bob roberts actually recommends this be done on the MPU, I've had the sockets for a bit but haven't gotten around to finish bulletproofing.
