I'm sure the locals had seen this advertised for awhile. I couldn't stand seeing this poor guy in the current state so about 2 weeks ago I drove an hour to go pick this Robotron cabinet up. I bought it figuring the ole Citrus strip should clean it off nicely which it surely does. But as you can tell from the pictures saving the original artwork is just not an option now. I kept trying to loosen spots of paint and found that the only time to remove it is when the paint crinkles up then it literally rolls off with np pressure but the original artwork suffered from it. Unfortunately the chemistry between the old thick ass oil paint and citrus strip was too much for the original paint. Bow your head in silence. :(
As you can see the black oil paint was a friggin mile thick.

I was going to make it a JR0K multi williams but using the Robtron theme - other than the glass bezel the rest is now history. If this was your cabinet what would you do?

I don't remember seeing that advertised anywhere. Looks about like the one I have in my barn though. You scored on the bezel and it looks like you got an old Joust control panel under there, correct colored 2-way sticks and all.

So restore it huh? Are you guys suggesting I buy the side art from arcadeshop? Or is there a stencil kit out there to use? I cringe to even think about using a stencil kit.

I really am intrigued about a Williams Multi - and after all it is a Williams cab. I'm suprised Dokert didn't say MULTI IT BECAUSE I HAVE A HARNESS to sell you! ;)

Geez this just blows. The monitor in it is a K4900 I asked questions about a few weeks ago - still haven;t had time to look at repairing the monitor, plan on ordering some kits from Zanen this week.
Sadly the bezel is not scratched at all, however the paint in it is starting to flake in a few spots and the original place for the menu decal on the right was painted over and they cut the bottom "nicely" and put the Bubble Bobble decal there and ran tape across it. So I do have a NOS bubble Bobble directions decal lol. I just might build a dedicated Bubble Bobble for my wife since I have all the guts for one now ;)

I would restore the cab regardless of weather I was gonna make it a dedicated Robotron or a multi williams. I would definitely restincil the Robotron art. As for the bezel, carefully clean it, cover the clear areas with something and krylon triple thick the art to keep the flaking/cracking from going any further.

I would get the stencil set from PROK at www.gamestencils.com
this one to be exact http://www.gamestencils.com/index.php?crn=207&rn=394&action=show_detail

I don't need to "Pimp" my wares in other people's threads. I don't have a Multi-harness, but JROK does have them for his Multi board.

I do have the Main harness for a Robotron available, and will have the AC harness ready in a few weeks.

I also have original linear power supplies that have been modified so that the +5vdc is adjustable.

There, how's that for "Pimping" my wares?:D

Nice dokert - see that's what I'm talking about heh.

Ok so a big no to AS artwork ok. I will go the stencils route - as scary as that is. I've read alot of stencils resto pages and far away they look awesome. Up close - well .... friggin over spray and smal paint runs. Meh - I've restored 3 machines all hand rolled and a person couldn't have asked for a better finish from a roller. I've never used stencils -are they really that tough?? 2 colors for the Robotron luckily should be pretty hard to F that up one would think.

So how much work is it to convert this current CP to a multi setup?

It is a stick, paint, remove while wet IIRC.

Making a multi out of a Joust cp shouldn't be that much work.

Having done both options once so far, if you decide to go multi or restore it to a Robotron, you will end up bondoing all the holes and redrilling. The odds that any of the holes will line up where you want them is pretty slim.

As far as the side art, multi-Williams is faster and easier. Just repaint with a good black paint and stick the decals on. They will run about what the Robotron stencils will run you.

Make sure you can get a good set of Joysticks (old Wicos are the best) with 4" sticks regardless of which direction you go. Robotron just doesn't play the same without them.

I don't know what the fascination operators had with putting Bubble Bobble in Williams cabinets. I have restored 3 so far and yours is about the 10th I've seen in the last year. Actually, make that 4 and 11. The Bubbles cabinet I bought a few months ago was a Bubble Babble (close enough).
