I got my all time high score on robotron yesterday. I was beyond excited just to get past 400,000 for the first time. Ended up with 565,400. I think I died a couple times only cause I was pumped to be over 500,000 haha. Great freakin game.

Nice job! One tough freaking game. When I get into the zone I can consistently score in the 400K range. My best score is 528K. I still can't understand how these guys can over a million plus score though...

I was watching some guys play at the Seattle pinball/arcade show and I was in awe. I was trying to figure out why they were so good. But it really seems to just boil down to fast reflexes and practice.

Ya I knocked your ass down to 24th or something. I was trying to get all the scores over 200,000.

That's a pretty good score. It just takes lots of practice to get further - particularly on the Tank and Brain levels. It took me loads of practice to develop tactics that actually help on these levels - especially beyond a million where the game just becomes madness.

Mind you, I keep losing focus every time I get over 2 million, and I know it's my fault, getting excited that I may break my own record (2,458,600) and then failing. :(
Still, I feel a big score is coming some day soon...keep practicing and you'll suddenly make another leap - even if you think the current levels are impossible - they aren't, they're just very difficult. :D

That would have been Eric Liddell at the Seattle show.

Yeah I watched buddy at Seattle show too, he was ridiculously good. We're talking sleeveless digdug shirt guy, I'm assuming.

Nah, that's probably Ken House. He's currently got the Dig Dug record, and the shirt is a pic of the Dig Dug guy (with Ken's face) and Pooka and Fygar (with Donald Hayes' and Dwayne Richards' faces...they're the other 2 of the top 3 record holders on Dig Dug). Hopefully he doesn't mind me linking to his photo, but here's a pic of Eric and group (Eric Liddell, Ken House, John McAlister and Bill Carlton, who all made the trip down to CAX together) Eric is the one in the foreground with the Defender shirt, Ken with the sleeveless T shirt, John next to him, and Bill in the yellow shirt. Bill's the one who is in the Missile Command documentary "High Score"

I helps to to have the controls dialed in. New grommets, cleaned contacts, etc, help immensely. Also helps to have strategies and stick to them.

I have been playing mine on and off for about two months after not having a dedicated machine to play for nearly 25 years. My high score so far is just shy of 1 million. When I have more time I am going to start playing it more and shoot for a Twin Galaxies score (not the high score though). The world record on this game seems utterly impossible to achieve.

Ya it was Ken House I was watching, the guy in the sleeveless shirt. My joysticks are far from great that's for sure. One of the best tips I've read is to NOT wait for your shots to hit something. Just fire and move on.

Also when I first started playing I kind of ran away and shot at people. But now that I've played more I find it better to attack and go towards the enemies instead. It usually kills them faster and it also allows you to shoot their bullets head on.

Congrats on the score. I am still on my March to Mediocrity although my latest goal is to kill bil. I am trying to move the score from BIL (152K) off the screen. So far he is half way down the second column. I'm coming for you BIL!!!!

Definitely take a look at your grommets to see if they are worn and need to be replaced and also adjust the contacts so the the controls are as responsive as possible.

Strategies I follow include staying near the center in the tank waves and shooting the quarks before they make the tanks. Don't commit suicide when going for family members (in other words don't lose a man which takes 20,000 points to earn for the sake of getting 5,000 points). Also staying off the walls of the game when being chased by enforcer robotrons, as their bolts-o-death will move along the walls. Go for sphereoids asap. Learn how to shoot the brain missles. Learn how to shoot diagonally. At the start of ALL brain waves (not just wave 5), the brains search for one particular human. When that one is changed to a prog, then the brains are released to kill at hearts content. When the wave starts, all the brains will turn and move towards the one that they have to get first, so if you can zero in on it; keep it alive and unrescued for as long as possible.
