My Robotron intermittantly will not move right. I kept thinking it was the joystick and rebuilt the wico and it still sporadically would act up. Today I decided to really investigate.
When I fired her up in test menu and activated switch test it read that "joystick move right"
was closed. I physically checked and the joystick was fine. I even turned the machine off, unplugged the control panel and checked again. It still thinks the joystick move right switch is closed. I checked all the wiring and that is fine. any ideas of where to check next.. If I turn the machine off and back on a few times it remedys itself but that is really growing old.

Thanks in advance

If the control panel is disconnected and the switch still shows as closed,
the problem is likely with the Interface (aka widget) board.
[smallest board in the cab.]

Not much on that board other than a PIA chip,
... which does go bad sometimes...

Happy hunting...

Try wiggling/reseating the ribbon cable from the cpu to widget board first, although bad connectors would not normally be effected by off and on cycles.

If the switch test is showing a closed switch and the connector is unplugged it is the I/O board. It may be one of the interface chips that jas gone bad, not necessarily the PIA chip.

If you have a logic probe, it is pretty easy to see which chip has gone bad. They are not that hard to repair most times.
