Seems people really hold onto these! Hardly ever see them come up for sale, and when they do, they are $$$. I guess the game really IS that bad-ass.

Robotron accounts for 99% of the time I spend on MAME since I don't have a dedicated cab yet.

A friend and I have stumbled onto a whole bunch of converted ones in the last 6 months.

Robotron isn't rare, it is just that collectors almost never let it go unless they find a nicer one.

My friend just sold a really nice one for $400. I thought he was nuts to do it. It was much nicer than the one I've owned for the last 20 years. It kind of made me sad.

I see them in the 400-650 range usually (From other collectors)... Occasionally Dips into the 800 range never really saw them go higher unless it was those NIB Mini ones for like $2084.00 It's a pretty dope game. Or inside joke Buy Backs at a local auction. They do pop up if you look hard enough, depends on what your price range is, but also depends on the condition you want it in. If you get a project cab Williams are all over the place, but be prepared to still dump 300-500 likely to convert it back to Robotron 2084. As far as I know all the pieces needed are available from the artwork, stencils, to the illuminated buttons even to repro 4'' wicos... Probably the hardest thing to find is the board set. I got an original robotron cab IMO too far gone to convert back without dropping serious coin, that was converted to a Bubble Bobble, and I'm not ashamed to say it but I kept my game as a Bubble Bobble, I freakin' love Bubble Bobble though... much more than Robotron I'm probably in the minority with that one. Eventually I'd also like to add a Robotron to my collection but no way will I get rid of my Bubble Bobble lol !

if your looking for a totally restored, immaculate machine that's been painted and stenciled, i'd expect to pay 1500.00 I sold my last one like that for 1200.00 , he had bought 5 new cabs off me, so i cut him a deal.

dptwiz, does that restored Robotron have new t-molding or the original?

Is that a new cabinet?

all new.. cab - T-molding, wiring harness, bezel, marquee, and overlay. I nickel plated the joystick shafts on it, and refinished all the metal. I should have dusted it off better, it's in the room i assemble cabs in, and it tends to get dusty back there.

Ok, it can be hard to tell new t-molding from old with the textured varieties.

There was a time in the 1990s when you could always get a grand for this game but the price has dropped like it has for other games. I have seen these go for $200...I got mine complete for $250. Yes there are exceptions for very nice examples to the right buyer. Overall I think a complete working game in decent shape is worth $400-$600.

Collectors do hold on to this game, though. It's a lot of fun and even if you get bored with it, you can always put it aside for a year or two and come back to it, and enjoy it again. This is the last game I would ever get rid of. I think I might be in the nursing home and have this next to my craftmatic adjustable bed...

rbotron

you found my joystick!!

yes robotron is a keeper, i am looking for a spare and very hard to find in very nice shape for under 1200.00. not that i aint willing to pay, but they get sold pretty fast when they're out there.

Robo Jon, your pricing doesn't seem to apply to the rest of us. CA is a different world when it comes to arcade cabs it seems. I'd knock an old lady down to get at a working Robotron for 2 bills, lol.
