Have a Robotron upright that isn't working. I've checked the power supply/fuses and they seem fine. Basically when powered up the rug pattern scrolls across the screen and stops. Pressing the button on the sound board plays a pattern of repeating sounds and the program board LED is flashing 1-3-6. Anyone have any ideas? I'm not sure where to start.

Go to the klov page on the machine, scroll to the bottom and DL the instruction manual. it is only 11 pages, and i read thru it today after getting my machine.

you are seeing a RAM error (the first 1) the other 2 digits show the ram bank and chip that has the problem. The bank/chip layout is described in the same manual.

good luck!

As John said you are seeing the diagnostic message for a RAM error. Bank 3 Chip 6. If you hold the MPU board so that the ROM and I/O connectors are up, the top bank is 1, the middle bank is 2 and the bottom bank is 3. The chips are then numbered left to right. So the 6th chip from the left in the bottom bank.

It may not be bad, try carefully removing it, clean the legs and replace it. Then see if the error message remains the same. If it does, swap it with a different chip. If the error follows the chip, then it is a bad RAM chip. If the error stays the same, then there are other deeper issues to deal with.

Ram

If you replace one of the 4116s you should replace the whole row with the same brand name because they are dependant on each other and there is subtle differences between manufactures.

Thanks, I'll have to test the RAM as mentioned above - and I never would have thought that a different manufacturer would be an issue. Actually if it is just the RAM, I'm guessing an upgrade to 4164's is in order.

Just don't forget to modify the power connector if you do so...
