Robotron-inspired shooter coming to Nintendo Playchoice

I wanted to tell you guys about a game my friend is writing for NES, which will also be one of the first new (non-bootleg) releases for the Playchoice

It's on Kickstarter and is fully funded and mostly developed. We don't have the pricing for the PC10 version quite nailed down, but if you want to pre-order the NES version you can do it from here. KS campaign is almost over though, currently there's just 24 hours remaining.

I'm the guy that has designed the board used in the NES version, and the Playchoice version as well. I'm hoping to help facilitate more new Playchoice releases, but this is an extremely niche market. If anyone is interested in new Playchoice games, let me know and that might help me convince some developers.

A couple notes:
My PC10 boards are compatible with the factory original PC10 BIOS and include instruction screens.
I'm not making bootleg or repro games of any kind.

Is it possible to use the rom from the pc version on an everdrive?

Once the virtual console launches on the switch, it would be great if you could get this on there. Using the dual sticks would be great.

1500points: I assume you're asking if it will run on a PC10 with a modified BIOS? After comparing the name/instruction ROM format, I think so. But I haven't tested that yet.

Paul Olson: With the demo version I know that is possible, but there is the normal NES demo version, of course. For the final version, I'll have to ask the developer. The thing is, my NES carts use flashrom for saving, and stuff like Everdrive and PowerPak carts do not yet support that. I know the game as it is now is compatible with anything. I think the answer is yes, but I'm not certain.

That is awesome news Memblers. Great to see homebrews on the playchoice.
Would be very cool to see Russian Roulette on a playchoice cart.
Looks like its a MMC3 game, so a cart would be easy, if you could get the guys interested in Releasing it on the playchoice.
Would be nice to have another gun game, besides the 3 originals and the 7 I offer as custom games on http://pc-10.com.

Pretty cool project in bringing more homebrew content to the PC-10.

When will this likely be available? The same time as the NES release?

I just picked up on this via Arcadeheroes (plug) I'd be down for a new game in my PC-10 depending on price:

Any update on this?

Most of the questions have been about pricing, I can say for sure that the Playchoice boards will cost a little more to make than the NES boards. Estimating $7 more. New NES games usually are around $35, so you can say maybe $42~$45 for decent quality games (512kB memory). I only supply the parts, most of the developers I work with are self-publishing so the final price is up to them.

The 96-pin connector on the Playchoice games makes it more expensive to produce vs NES carts, that can't be automated so it doesn't get much cheaper if built in a larger quantity.

Spook-o-tron is having levels added to it and other refinements.

I've thought about inviting a developer to do a release of a smaller game, I have a small number of NROM boards ready (32kB+8kB).

So, you're talking about $50 for new playchoice games. That is a great deal. A robotron style shooter would make great use of the playchoice contol panel.
